MAHENDERGARH, 13.09.25-The Department of Sociology, Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh concluded its two-day inter-departmental event on World Suicide Prevention Day 2025 with a series of awareness and academic activities under the theme “Changing the Narrative.”

Addressing the gathering virtually, the Vice Chancellor spoke about managing stress and pressures in daily life. He urged students to cultivate positive coping mechanisms, build supportive peer networks, and avoid silence around mental health concerns. He also praised the Sociology Department for designing a unique program that blended academic analysis with community engagement.

During this session, Dr. Reema Gill, Associate Professor, welcomed the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, and briefed him about the two-day program. The final day began with poster-making, poetry, and storytelling competitions, where students expressed their views on mental health, depression, and suicide through art and literature. The creative entries highlighted resilience, hope, and the need for collective responsibility in addressing mental health issues.

In the afternoon, attention turned to academic engagement. Students and faculty members held a discussion and thematic analysis of anonymous thoughts collected during the Day-01 social experiment. The session also featured a presentation by Ananya Singh, MA Sociology (Second Year), who examined the sociological aspects of suicide, drawing from classical and contemporary theories.

Faculty members further enriched the discussions. Dr. Yudhvir, Assistant Professor, spoke on everyday stress and coping strategies. Tanvi Bhati, Assistant Professor, emphasized suicide as not only a psychological issue but also a sociological phenomenon. Shweta Sohal, Assistant Professor (Political Science), called suicide an alarming social concern requiring collective responsibility.

The program concluded with the felicitation of competition winners by faculty members. Dr. T. Longkoi, Head of the Department, delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of students and the support of the Vice Chancellor.
