*Officers and Officials Mobilized to Drain Rainwater in Ambala Industrial Area -Energy Minister Anil Vij*
Chandigarh, September 8 – Haryana’s Energy, Transport, and Labour Minister, Sh. Anil Vij has directed officers and officials to work with full force to drain accumulated rainwater in Ambala Cantonment Industrial Area, ensuring that water flows directly into drains and not into residential colonies.
Taking serious note of obstructions created by some individuals during drainage efforts on Sunday, September 7, Minister Vij convened an urgent meeting today at 12:00 noon at the PWD Rest House in Ambala Cantonment with senior officers from various departments, including Deputy Commissioner Ajay Tomar and Superintendent of Police Ajit Singh Shekhawat.
The meeting followed complaints from industrialists who met the Minister on Sunday about waterlogging in the area. Although drainage work had begun on his instructions, the process was disrupted when miscreants damaged drainage pipes and equipment, forcing work to stop.
During the review, Sh. Vij gathered detailed updates from officers and officials about the most affected locations and the measures being taken. He emphasized that officers must act decisively and ensure smooth water outflow into designated drains. Specific responsibilities were assigned to different departments to coordinate the efforts effectively.
After the meeting, Minister Vij personally inspected the Industrial Area, interacted with officers, staff, and industrialists, and issued on-ground instructions to expedite the drainage process. He praised the administrative officials for their prompt response so far, while also highlighting the importance of both immediate relief and long-term permanent solutions to waterlogging.
Reiterating his guiding principle, Vij said: “We must firmly believe that for us, no one is an outsider – everyone is our own.”
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) project director informed the Minister that water is being drained from the road in front of the Industrial Area and will be cleared soon. Survey teams have also been deployed in surrounding areas to prepare preventive plans for the future.
Vij also noted the benefits of deepening the Tangri River, which helped prevent flooding in Ambala Cantonment despite the river’s water level crossing the danger mark. He instructed that GPS devices be installed in vehicles lifting soil from the Tangri in the future for better monitoring.
The meeting was attended by Ambala Cantonment SDM Vinesh Kumar, GM Roadways Ashwini Dogra, senior engineers from PWD and NHAI, EO Municipal Council Devender Narwal, Municipal Council Chairperson Swarn Kaur, Lalta Prasad, and BJP representatives Ravi Budhiraja, Vikas Bahgal, Pravesh Sharma, Bijender Chauhan, Harsh Bindra, Sanjeev Soni, Ashish Aggarwal, BS Bindra, among others.
