Chandigarh, 1 February: The Postgraduate Department of Commerce at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organised a workshop titled ‘SEBI Investor Certification Examination’. The workshop aimed to create awareness about the Indian securities market and promoting financial literacy among students.

The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Viraj Singal, Head, Investor Education and Awareness Initiative, Krisha Foundation. The key topics discussed during this comprehensive workshop included Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), investment through lots, minimum investment requirements and retail investor limits, the book-building process, types of mutual funds and newly launched schemes, estimation of returns and associated risks, and features and benefits of Systematic Investment Plans (SIP), Systematic Transfer Plans (STP) and Systematic Withdrawal Plans (SWP). The workshop also provided insights into New Fund Offers (NFOs), Market Infrastructure Institutions, the role of the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), and SEBI’s digital investor support initiatives such as SAARTHI, the Investor Education App, and SCORES, SEBI’s investor grievance redressal system. Information about the Metropolitan Stock Exchange (MSE) and its trading system was also shared. Mr. Singal also guided students on the NISM VA series certification programmes, and highlighted how these certifications can open employment opportunities in Asset Management Companies and support entrepreneurial ventures in the mutual fund business. Over 80 students participated in the workshop and benefited from it.

Appreciating the initiative, the Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma remarked that in today’s dynamic financial environment, it is imperative that students are equipped with sound financial knowledge and awareness of regulatory frameworks. She added that workshops such as these not only enhance financial literacy but also empower young learners to make informed investment decisions and explore diverse career opportunities in the financial sector.
