In its continued endeavour to ensure grievance redressal at the doorstep of citizens, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Chandigarh, is regularly conducting Public Hearings (Jan Sunwai) every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. During these hearings, Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, personally interacts with members of the general public and hears their grievances. Citizens directly apprise the Deputy Commissioner of the difficulties being faced by them in various matters. The Deputy Commissioner issues necessary directions to the concerned officers and branches for time-bound redressal of the grievances. The compliance and status of the directions issued during the hearings are thereafter regularly monitored and followed up by the Complaints and Enquiry Branch of the DC Office to ensure that no grievance remains unattended.
The grievances received during these hearings generally pertain to matters relating to transfer and registration of property, issuance of various certificates by the DC Office, grant of Arms Licences and other allied administrative matters. Giving details of the prompt action taken on the complaints, it was informed that from 1st April 2026 to 30th June 2026, a total of 223 complaints were received during the Public Hearings. Out of these, 98 complaints were resolved on the spot or within the stipulated time frame while the remaining 125 complaints, being related to other departments, were forwarded to the concerned departments and agencies for necessary action with directions to submit compliance reports in a time-bound manner.
Speaking on the initiative, Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, said, “The District Administration is taking every possible step to help its citizens. These Public Hearings serve as an important platform for direct interaction with the public, enabling us to understand their problems first-hand and ensure time-bound resolution. I have directed all concerned officers and the Complaints and Enquiry Branch to follow up diligently on every grievance so that citizens do not have to make repeated visits to the office for redressal of their genuine problems.”
The Deputy Commissioner further appealed to the residents of Chandigarh to make use of this facility for redressal of their grievances relating to property, certificates and other administrative matters and reiterated the Administration’s commitment towards citizen-centric and transparent governance.

40-HOUR MEDIATION TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR COMMUNITY MEDIATORS BEGINS AT CHANDIGARH JUDICIAL ACADEMY
A 40-hour Mediation Training Programme for Community Mediators commenced today at the Chandigarh Judicial Academy, Sector-43, Chandigarh. The programme has been organised by the State Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh under the aegis of NALSA.
A total of 17 Community Mediators are participating in the training programme with the objective of enabling them to resolve local and village-level disputes within their own communities at the grassroots level after completion of the training. The programme was inaugurated by Sh. Sunil Kumar, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh.
Addressing the inaugural session, Sh. Sunil Kumar stated that the initiative is highly commendable. He said that through Community Mediation, small disputes and day-to-day issues at the village and community level can be effectively resolved by trained Community Mediators themselves. This will not only promote harmony and brotherhood in society but will also help people avoid unnecessary visits to police stations and courts.
The training is being conducted by Adv. Manjeet Kaur Kotiya and Adv. Seema Pasreecha, Certified Master Trainers empanelled with MCPC, Delhi. Both trainers have extensive experience in mediation and will impart training on mediation techniques, communication skills, ethics and practical role-plays. The 40-hour training will equip the participants to handle disputes effectively and promote a culture of dialogue and peaceful dispute resolution at the community level.
Necessary certificates will be distributed by Sh. Arun Kumar Aggarwal, Ld. Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh after completion of the training programme. DLSA Chandigarh remains committed to strengthening the Alternate Dispute Resolution mechanism and empowering communities to resolve their issues amicably at the grassroots level.
