Ludhiana 03 June 2025-College of Animal Biotechnology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana conducted the annual review meeting of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT)-sponsored Postgraduate Teaching Programme. The meeting was chaired by Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Vice Chancellor and was attended by an esteemed panel comprising the DBT Nominee, Professor Mahesh Sankaran (National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bangalore), Skill Expert Dr. Ajit Dua (CEO, Punjab Biotechnology Incubator, Mohali), External Academic Experts, Dr. Manav Inder Singh Gill (Dean, Postgraduate Studies, PAU, Ludhiana) and Dr. Parveen Chhuneja (Director, Dr. G.S. Khush Institute of Genetics, PAU, Ludhiana); Industrial Representative Mr. Nishit Singhania (Director, S Singhania (India) Pvt. Ltd., Ludhiana) along with Dr. Ramneek Verma, Adjunct professor and core faculty members, students and key administrative staff.
Dr. J.P.S. Gill lauded the dedication and contributions of the faculty and students, emphasizing the need for research to be increasingly aligned with industry needs. He said that the College houses a dedicated, university-level Central Instrumentation Facility catering to advanced molecular biology work.
Dr R S Sethi, Dean, informed that the college has been offering admissions to its DBT-sponsored Master’s programme since 2021, providing a monthly stipend of ₹5000 to students qualifying the DBT GAT-B examination. He presented an overview of the college, highlighting milestones achieved, while Dr. B.B.S. Dhaliwal, Chairman of the Academic Affairs Committee, shared the progress of the programme. The session featured vibrant discussions and constructive feedback. Prof. Mahesh Sankaran, commended the high-quality research initiatives being undertaken. Dr. Ajit Dua appreciated the strategic role played by the Central Instrumentation Facility and the incubation centre. She encouraged further utilization of these resources to benefit student entrepreneurs and startups.
Dr. Manav Inder Singh Gill stressed the importance of publishing student research with proper acknowledgment. Dr. Parveen Chhuneja proposed a centralized counselling system for DBT programme admissions to benefit aspiring students by making the process more streamlined, equitable, and accessible. Mr. Nishit Singhania urged for increased national visibility of the programme through improved promotion and outreach.
