Mandi, 09 June 2025 –Mrs. Twarku Devi, a resident of Mahunag village in Sub-Tehsil Sawamahun, Tehsil Karsog, District Mandi (Himachal Pradesh), is a remarkable example of how determination and community spirit can transform lives. While managing her household, she has also established herself as one of the best and most active women social workers in the region.
Since joining the Gram Ganga Self Help Group in 2013, Mrs. Devi has been a driving force in empowering rural women. She is known for her skill in crafting traditional items such as majri, bina, flower pots, baskets, pen stands, and bangle stands. Beyond her own work, she dedicates herself to teaching these crafts to young girls, helping them gain confidence and independence.
Her contributions go beyond handcrafts. Twarku Devi prepares organic pickles, cucumber-based products, and bamboo items, showcasing them at SARAS fairs organized under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM). There, she also presents eco-friendly products made from chalaaru leaves, promoting sustainable practices. Her entrepreneurial efforts bring in a monthly income of approximately ₹10,000 — a significant achievement in the rural economy.
Twarku Devi’s dedication to community service has earned her multiple awards through Mahila Mandal platforms. She is deeply committed to the betterment of other women, helping them market their products and encouraging them to become self-reliant through participation in self-help groups. She also organizes awareness camps on natural farming, advocating for the use of indigenous and sustainable methods in agriculture and daily life.
Her work has made her not just a contributor, but an inspiration and a role model for women in her region. Through her actions, she proves that rural women, when empowered, can lead economic change and social progress.
