Chandigarh, April 24:Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan, on Tuesday, released a book "Khaki, Khaadku Te Kalam" of senior journalist and writer Jagtar Singh Bhullar, which depicts the challenges and difficulties faced by journalists while performing their duties during the period of 1978 to 1995 in the state of Punjab.

Addressing the gathering during a brief ceremony at Press Club Chandigarh, the Speaker said that journalists and writers are the whistle blowers of the society and they awake people with their pen. Referring to the problem faced by the journalists during the past decades penned down in the book and in context of the recent events taking place in Uttar Pradesh, S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan said, "only the Rule of Law can ensure the well being of the people, while the "Street Justice" always fatal to any nation."
During his address, Mr. Manjeet Singh Sidhu, OSD/Chief Minister, Punjab shared his journey with Jagtar Singh Bhullar in the early days of journalism, and congratulated the author while appreciating the work of presenting the stories of the journalists in a book form.
Author Jagtar Singh Bhullar said, he was inspired to write this book in view of the need to understand the pain of journalists since independence, adding that he has covered the stories of about 25 journalists covering the state for various newspapers between the years 1978 to 1995 in this book. This book also covered the fearless behaviour of the then journos while performing their duty amid pressure from two sides or contending groups, besides depicting the attitude of the then government and the role of the police.
Comrade Sukhwinder Singh Sekhon, Dr. Deepak Manmohan Singh, Former Director, World Punjabi Center, Punjabi University Patiala and senior journalists Mr. Ramesh Vinayak, Mr. Jagtar Singh Senior, Mr. Baljit Balli, Mr. Sarbjeet Pandher, Mr. Deepak Sharma Chanarthal and Mr. Jai Singh Chhibbar also spoke on this occasion.
