Sunil Jakhar visits ministers’ residences and Circuit House, alleges illegal occupation by Delhi AAP leaders

Chandigarh, September 29: Former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar visited the official residences of Punjab government ministers and the Circuit House in Chandigarh. In the presence of the media, he alleged that Delhi-based Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders were occupying these properties in place of their authorised occupants, with the backing of Arvind Kejriwal, whom he called the “super CM.”

Jakhar said he had come to see for himself who was living in the ministers’ residences, instead of relying on social media discussions or hearsay. Referring to the constitutional oath taken by Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian, he said a minister was required to keep official matters confidential. He questioned why files from Mundian’s department, which he claimed held information about an alleged ₹10,000-crore GMADA scam, had reached residence No. 926.

Jakhar alleged that the files were sent to Satyendar Jain at that residence as part of a policy of control from Delhi. He said this was why the Enforcement Directorate had come there and claimed its investigation would reveal the truth. He also demanded Mundian’s resignation.

Jakhar said Kejriwal had once presented himself as staunchly honest and declared that he would not accept an official residence as chief minister. Yet, Jakhar alleged, under his party’s rule, even AAP associates had illegally occupied official residences meant for Punjab ministers.

Jakhar said he had booked a room at the Sector 39 Circuit House two days earlier for September 29, but Punjab Police was not allowing him to enter. He claimed that being stopped was itself evidence of illegal occupation of the government properties.

He further alleged that Punjab’s ministers had become ministers in name only and were now so embarrassed that they were hiding their identities, with even their nameplates removed from the residences.

Jakhar said that while he, a resident of Punjab, was being denied entry to the Circuit House despite having a booking, AAP associates had occupied government properties without legal authority and displaced the ministers entitled to them. He alleged that Circuit House rooms were also under the permanent control of AAP associates and were unavailable to officials, political leaders and journalists visiting Chandigarh from Punjab.

Calling on the chief minister to fulfil his duty to Punjab, Jakhar urged him to remove what he described as unidentified people from Delhi from the government residences. He warned the occupants to vacate buildings built with Punjab taxpayers’ money, saying the protest would otherwise intensify. He added that, if the government changed, those responsible would be held to account.

When journalists raised the tense atmosphere caused by rumours at Lovely Professional University and Chitkara University, Jakhar said Punjabis would not forgive the government for what he alleged had happened at Lovely Professional University: people he described as goons reaching the girls’ hostel under cover of a protest. He said the safety of their daughters was paramount to Punjabis and that the government could not evade responsibility for the alleged failure.

Describing the sudden incidents at the two universities, reportedly sparked by rumours, as serious, Jakhar reiterated his demand for an investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The four yatras were warmly welcomed by Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon upon entering Jalandhar. Speaking on the occasion, Kewal Singh Dhillon said that the yatras had commenced from Madhopur on September 18, Fatehgarh Sahib on September 19, Fazilka on September 20, and Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, Talwandi Sabo, on September 21. He said that after reaching villages across Punjab continuously for 13 days, the yatras had taken the shape of a mass movement.
He said that the people of Punjab had extended overwhelming support to the Drug-Free Punjab campaign. He said that the Punjab BJP had raised a strong voice against drugs, giving the people of Punjab the confidence that if drugs can be eradicated from Punjab, it is only the Bharatiya Janata Party that can accomplish this.

Kewal Singh Dhillon said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address a massive public rally on September 30 on the occasion of the conclusion of the ‘Drug-Free Punjab Yatra’. The Home Minister’s visit to Punjab will mark the beginning of the fight against drugs. The campaign launched against drugs will now continue until drugs are completely eradicated.
Jalandhar District President Ashok Sareen Hicky, along with a large number of party leaders and workers, was present on the occasion.
