Chandigarh 22nd June -Sh. Kamaljit Singh Panchhi, President, Property Federation Chandigarh (Regd.), on behalf of its members, has written to the Hon’ble Union Home Minister of India, Shri Amit Shah Ji, highlighting the serious difficulties being faced by the residents of Chandigarh due to the suspension of share-wise property registries following the Chandigarh Administration’s interpretation of the Hon’ble Supreme Court judgment dated 10 January 2023. The suspension of share-wise registries has caused significant hardship to property owners, adversely affecting the transfer, sale, inheritance, and management of properties. It has also created uncertainty among thousands of residents and resulted in a substantial loss of revenue for the Chandigarh Administration.
Members of the Property Federation Chandigarh have pointed out that many properties are now owned by third- and fourth-generation family members. The inability to transfer property shares is giving rise to legal and financial complications. If the issue is not addressed promptly, it may lead to an increase in family disputes, property-related litigation, and additional pressure on the judicial system in the years to come.
*Kamaljit Singh Panchhi has respectfully requested that this matter be included in the agenda of the forthcoming meeting to be chaired by the Hon’ble Home Minister with the Chief Secretary and senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration, in the larger public interest and for the welfare of the residents of Chandigarh and he remains hopeful that the issue will receive sympathetic consideration and that a timely and positive resolution will be reached for this long-pending matter*.
