*Mayor Saurabh Joshi Assures Protection of Livelihood of nearly 900 Safaikarmacharis
*MC Chandigarh moves swiftly to safeguard welfare of sanitation workers and ensure continuity of essential civic services
Chandigarh, May 25:- Reaffirming the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh’s unwavering commitment towards the welfare and dignity of sanitation workers, Chandigarh Mayor Sh. Saurabh Joshi today held a detailed meeting with Safaikarmacharis associated with Lions Company along with union leaders led by Rajesh Kalia and Vinod Kumar.
During the interaction, the Safaikarmacharis informed the Mayor that the tender of Lions Company has matured, leaving hundreds of workers uncertain about their future and livelihood from today onwards. Expressing concern over the situation, the Mayor patiently heard their grievances and assured them that the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh stands firmly with every Safaikarmachari and will make all possible efforts to protect their interests.
Addressing the safaikarmacharis, the Mayor stated that sanitation workers are the backbone of the city’s cleanliness system and their welfare cannot be compromised. He assured the workers that alternative emergent arrangements are being worked out so that all Safaikarmacharis presently engaged with Lions Company may continue to serve the city without disruption.
He informed that, as a stop-gap arrangement, the services of Safaikarmacharis may be requisitioned for maintenance of essential sanitation services in the city immediately till further orders.
The Mayor further stated that services of nearly 900 Safaikarmacharis are required for maintaining sanitation services across the city and every effort is being made to ensure that no worker suffers due to administrative transition.
He reiterated that the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has always remained sensitive towards the welfare, dignity and livelihood security of Safaikarmacharis and will continue to work in their best interests with compassion and responsibility.
The Safaikarmacharis and union representatives appreciated the prompt and humane intervention of the Mayor and expressed hope that the proposed arrangements would provide relief and stability to hundreds of affected families.

Councillor Kuldeep Kumar starts work on three public toilets in Ward 26
Chandigarh, May 25:- In a significant step towards improving public convenience and sanitation infrastructure, area councillor Sh. Kuldeep Kumar today started the work of three new public toilets at Palm Park, EWS Colony Sector 38 West and near House No. 2270 in Ward No. 26.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Kuldeep Kumar said that true development means fulfilling the basic needs of citizens. He stated that the long-pending demand of local residents is now being addressed, which will greatly benefit senior citizens, women, children and morning/evening walkers in the area.
He reiterated his commitment towards public welfare and continuous development of Ward No. 26, adding that more people-centric development works will be undertaken in the coming time.
Prominent local residents including Narinder Pal Rana, Googan Ram and Ranbir Singh were also present on the occasion.

MC Chandigarh cracks down on encroachments in Manimajra Motor Market
Chandigarh, May 25:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today carried out a special anti-encroachment and enforcement drive in the Motor Market, Manimajra Sector 13, to ensure smooth public movement and maintain civic discipline in the area.
During the drive, the enforcement team impounded 24 cars and one truck found causing obstruction and violating municipal norms. Besides this, various illegally placed items including jacks, iron pattis, iron benches, oxygen cylinders, car seat covers and old tyres were removed from public spaces.
As part of the enforcement action, a total of 43 challans were issued against violators for unauthorized encroachments and misuse of public areas.
The drive was conducted peacefully with active cooperation from market stakeholders and local residents. The Municipal Corporation reiterated its commitment towards keeping city markets clean, organized and encroachment-free and appealed to shopkeepers and vehicle owners to strictly follow civic regulations to avoid penal action in future.
