CHANDIGARH, 07.95.26-Today, office bearers of the Chandigarh Teachers Association (CTA) met Governor and Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria and raised several serious and long-pending issues concerning teachers. The delegation included Legal Advisor Arvind Rana, General Secretary Ajay Sharma, Chairman Gagan Singh Shekhawat, Joint Secretary Jyotsna Bajaj, and Treasurer Parveen Kaur Mann.

The representatives urged the Governor to grant relief to teachers from census duty and to implement the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) process on the lines of standing orders. They stated that teachers working under Samagra Shiksha, contract teachers, and guest teachers in the Chandigarh Administration are still deprived of the benefits of the 7th Pay Commission, leading to widespread disappointment among teachers. CTA has consistently raised this issue before the administration, but no concrete decision has been taken so far.

The association requested the Governor to intervene in the matter and issue necessary directions so that teachers may receive their legitimate rights. The representatives also highlighted that teachers are facing considerable difficulties due to census duty. They demanded that census-related work should allowed partially in school time in hybrid mode without actually affecting school time teaching process.

The delegation further pointed out that although the majority of teachers in the Chandigarh Education Department are women, female teachers working on contract are not being provided legally entitled facilities such as abortion leave and nursing breaks. They termed the issue both sensitive and concerning and expressed hope for an early resolution after raising the matter before the Governor.

In addition, the representatives reiterated the demand for 12-month salary benefits for school counsellors as per mandatory affiliation byelaws of CBSE. They also urged the administration to take an early and positive decision regarding the extension of 7th Pay Commission benefits to contract teachers, a matter that is presently pending at the administrative level.
