CHANDIGARH, 04.05.26-With great enthusiasm and high spirits, the Government Rehabilitation Institute for Intellectual Disabilities (GRIID), Sector 31, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Haryana Yog Aayog, has commenced its celebrations of the 12th International Day of Yoga as part of the nationwide countdown leading up to 21st June.

The International Day of Yoga, observed annually on 21st June—the longest day of the year—was envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to promote health, harmony, and overall well-being across the globe. In alignment with this vision, Haryana Yog Aayog and GRIID are organizing a five-day Common Yoga Protocol Training Session from 4th to 8th May 2026.

The event is being conducted under the guidance of Dr. Jaideep Arya, Chairman, Haryana Yog Aayog, and Dr. Ajeet Sidana. It was also graced by distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Sapna Nanda, Principal, Government College of Education, Sector 20, Chandigarh; Sh. Anil Kumar, Principal, GRIID; Mr. Sandeep Sharma, Senior Special Educator, GRIID; and Dr. Jaspreet Kaur from Haryana Yog Aayog.

On Day 1 (4th May 2026), the programme began with an inaugural ceremony jointly organized by GRIID and the Haryana Yog Aayog at the institute premises. Special students participated in the Common Yoga Protocol training session with great enthusiasm. The session conveyed a powerful message: “Yoga celebrates every child’s ability.”

In her address, Dr. Sapna Nanda highlighted that this year marks the 12th International Day of Yoga, a visionary initiative of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji. She emphasized that yoga offers a holistic approach to wellness and is highly effective as a preventive health practice. She encouraged all participants to incorporate yoga into their daily lives for overall well-being.

Sh. Anil Kumar, Principal of GRIID, encouraged students to adopt yoga as a part of their daily routine in preparation for the International Day of Yoga on 21st June. He emphasized the role of yoga in enhancing physical health, mental well-being, and overall personality development.

The Common Yoga Protocol sessions are being conducted under the expert guidance of Ms. Manisha Sharma, Yoga Therapist, and Dr. Jaspreet Kaur from Haryana Yog Aayog, ensuring proper execution and inclusive participation for all.
