Anita Kataria felicitated meritorious children of Punjab Lok Bhavan employees for their achievements in academics, sports and other fields at a function held at Guru Nanak Auditorium, Punjab Lok Bhavan.
Chandigarh, March 24:The Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria along with his wife Smt. Anita Kataria felicitated meritorious children of Punjab Lok Bhavan employees for their achievements in academics, sports and other fields at a function held at Guru Nanak Auditorium, Punjab Lok Bhavan. Certificates of Achievement along with cash awards from the Governor’s discretionary fund were presented to encourage the students and recognise their hard work.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that such recognition boosts confidence and motivates children to do better in their chosen fields. He highlighted that education and sports together contribute to the overall development of youth and added that sports also help keep young people away from drug abuse.
Under the initiative, eleven Class X students scoring above 70 percent were awarded ₹11,000 each, while three Class XII students received ₹21,000 each. Six students preparing for NEET/JEE were provided 30 percent reimbursement of coaching fees amounting to ₹1,63,200. Financial assistance covering 30 percent of annual fees was extended to 21 students pursuing professional courses, totalling ₹6,25,900. Support of ₹10,900 was also provided to one student preparing for competitive examinations after higher education.
In the sports category, seven students were given cash incentives totalling ₹41,000, while additional certificates were presented to students selected at state level, school-level medal winners, and two children of Group-A officers for notable achievements. Overall, financial assistance of ₹10.25 lakh along with 25 certificates of recognition was distributed.
Previous year (2024-25), similar financial incentives had been extended. Sixteen meritorious students of Classes X and XII scoring above 70 percent were awarded ₹11,000 and ₹21,000 respectively. Assistance was also provided to NEET/JEE aspirants, students pursuing professional courses, and postgraduates preparing for competitive examinations, with the objective of encouraging academic excellence and easing financial burden on families.

World TB Day Celebrated with in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, March 24: World TB Day was celebrated at Plaza, Sector 17, Chandigarh under the guidance of Dr. Suman Singh, Director Health Services (DHS), Chandigarh Administration-cum-Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM).
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Navneet Kanwar, State TB Officer, Health Department, U.T., Chandigarh
The event was organized as part of the TB Mukt Bharat Initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, with active participation from NSS cadets and MY Bharat volunteers.
The event commenced with an awareness session addressing the public, emphasizing the importance of community participation in eliminating tuberculosis and highlighting the crucial role of youth volunteers in achieving a TB-free India. To further spread awareness and reduce stigma associated with the disease, an engaging street play (nukkad natak) was performed by volunteers, which was widely appreciated by the audience.
A walkathon was also organized as part of the celebrations, witnessing enthusiastic participation from youth and the general public. The initiative aimed to foster collective responsibility and promote awareness about tuberculosis prevention and treatment. An informative exhibition was also displayed, providing valuable insights into TB awareness, diagnosis, and treatment.
