Ludhiana 11 February 2026-The Department of Animal Nutrition, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, organized a five-day hands-on training programme on “Nutritional Technologies for Dairy Farmers” under the aegis of the Directorate of Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana. A total of 14 dairy farmers and feed manufacturers from different district of Punjab participated in this training.

In the concluding function of the training, Dr. R. S. Grewal, Director of Extension Education, emphasized that nutrition accounts for nearly 65–70 percent of the total cost of dairy farming. He highlighted that the adoption of modern nutritional technologies can substantially reduce feeding costs, thereby improving farm profitability. Dr. J. S. Hundal, Course Director-cum-Head, shared that the programme was designed to strengthen farmers’ practical skills and scientific understanding of dairy animal nutrition for sustainable milk production.

During the training programme, farmers were provided with practical exposure to modern and cost-effective nutritional technologies essential for profitable dairy farming. The participants were practically trained in the preparation of mineral mixture, bypass fat, uromin lick, and fodder conservation techniques including silage and hay making. Expert lectures were also delivered on scientific feed formulation, nutrition management from day-old calf to heifer and adult milking animals, transition feeding, vitamin and mineral nutrition and balanced ration formulation using locally available feed resources. Special sessions were conducted on aflatoxin contamination in feed and fodder and its effective control along with demonstrations on feed testing and its importance in ensuring animal health and productivity.

The programme was successfully coordinated by Dr. Udeybir Singh, Dr. Amit Sharma and Dr. Jujhar Singh Sidhu. The training programme received enthusiastic participation from farmers and marked an important step towards promoting scientific feeding practices, cost-effective nutrition and sustainable dairy farming in Punjab.
