Chandigarh, February 10:- The MC Chandigarh organized a Workshop on Home Composting on on Tuesday at the Community Centre, Sector 40-A, Chandigarh, with the objective of promoting household-level management of wet waste and encouraging citizens to adopt sustainable and environment-friendly practices for a cleaner and greener city.

The objective of the workshop was to educate residents on managing wet waste at the household level by converting it into compost, thereby reducing the load on garbage collection and landfill sites and promoting environmental sustainability.

The programme was graced by Sh. Pardeep Kumar, IAS, Special Commissioner, as the Chief Guest. Ms. Gurbax Rawat, Area Councillor, and Joint Commissioner Sh. Himanshu Gupta were also present on the occasion.

A large number of citizens from the surrounding areas actively participated in the workshop. Participants engaged in discussions on cleanliness, waste segregation, and practical methods of home composting. Experts demonstrated simple and effective composting techniques, encouraging residents to adopt the practice in their homes.

Addressing the gathering, the Special Commissioner highlighted that citizen participation plays a vital role in achieving the goals of Swachh Survekshan. He urged residents to segregate waste at source and practice home composting for a cleaner and greener Chandigarh.

Ms. Gurbax Rawat appealed to citizens to take collective responsibility for maintaining cleanliness in their neighborhoods and to motivate others to follow sustainable waste management practices.

The workshop concluded with an enthusiastic response from citizens, reaffirming their commitment to cleanliness, environmental protection, and making Chandigarh a model city in solid waste management
