Chandigarh, February 9: The NSS Units and Red Ribbon Club of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organised an awareness session titled ‘Safe Tomorrow: Youth Awareness on HIV/AIDS’. The session aimed at educating students about HIV/AIDS, dispelling prevailing myths, and promoting preventive measures and support systems.
The resource person, Dr Sunil Panghal, Assistant Director (Youth Affairs), Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society, sensitively discussed crucial aspects related to the prevention of HIV/AIDS. He elaborated on the various modes of transmission of the virus and emphasised the importance of timely medical intervention. Special focus was laid on Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), highlighting its effectiveness as a preventive measure when administered within the prescribed time after potential exposure. The session also underscored the significance of awareness, responsible behaviour, and early intervention in combating the spread of HIV/AIDS, especially among the youth. The programme witnessed active participation from students, reflecting their keen interest in understanding critical health-related issues.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma asserted that the event successfully reinforced the college’s commitment to promoting health awareness, social responsibility, and informed decision-making among students.
