Jalandhar, 29.01.26-; In a moment of national recognition for excellence in sports education, Lovely Professional University (LPU) has achieved a remarkable double victory at the prestigious Global Sports Education Convention (G-SEC) 2026, receiving the National Ranking Award for Sports & Physical Education in two distinguished categories. LPU was honoured with the awards for “Best Social Media Promotion in Sports and Physical Education” and the “Best Indoor Sports Facility” by the Confederation of Sports and Recreation Industry (CSRI). The awards were presented at a ceremony organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, recognising LPU’s holistic leadership in shaping the future of sports in the country.
Speaking on the achievement, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU, emphasised that sports has always been an integral pillar of the university’s educational philosophy. Dr. Mittal noted that LPU’s continuous growth in sports infrastructure, scientific training and athlete development reflects a commitment to building not only champions, but disciplined, resilient and socially responsible individuals. Dr. Mittal shared that the university envisions sports as a powerful medium for leadership development, national pride and global competitiveness, and remains dedicated to creating an ecosystem where talent is nurtured with purpose and opportunity.
LPU also actively contributed to the intellectual discourse at G-SEC 2026 through its participation in the panel discussion on Financing and Return on Investment in Sports and Physical Education. Representing the university, Dr. Sorabh Lakahanpal, Executive Dean, shared insights on sustainable funding models, institutional returns through athlete development, industry academia partnerships, and the importance of long term planning in strengthening sports education as a high impact sector.
Over the years, LPU has emerged as one of India’s most comprehensive sporting hubs, hosting several major national championships and inter university tournaments. Its expansive sports infrastructure includes an Olympic standard indoor swimming pool, a fully equipped shooting range, synthetic tracks, football grounds, international grade badminton, volleyball and table tennis courts, high performance training centres, sports science laboratories and rehabilitation facilities.
