Chandigarh, January 26 – Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Sh. Anil Vij unfurled the National Flag and took the salute at the grand parade during the 77th District-level Republic Day function held at Yamunanagar. He also visited the Shaheedi Memorial at the Police Lines and paid homage to the martyrs.

On this occasion, Sh. Anil Vij extended heartfelt Republic Day greetings and best wishes to the families of freedom fighters, martyrs’ families, senior citizens, mothers and sisters, youth, children, administrative officers, police personnel, NCC, NSS, school students, journalists and eminent citizens of the district. The Cabinet Minister announced Rs. 21 lakh for distribution of sweets and gifts to participating students and also declared a holiday on January 27.

Addressing the gathering, Sh. Anil Vij said that Republic Day is not merely a festival but a symbol of India’s unwavering commitment to the Constitution, democracy and national values. He recalled that on January 26, 1950, the Constitution of India came into force, providing the pillars of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity, and establishing India as a sovereign, socialist, secular and democratic republic.

He paid tribute to the chief architect of the Constitution, Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and all members of the Constituent Assembly, stating that their vision and tireless efforts have ensured a strong and vibrant democratic framework. He also remembered Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Lala Lajpat Rai, Dr. Rajendra Prasad and all freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

India’s Global Identity and Haryana’s Contribution

Sh. Vij said that since Independence, India has continuously progressed and today stands as a strong, self-reliant and influential nation on the global stage. He credited this achievement to the relentless efforts of farmers, workers, artisans, scientists, soldiers and youth.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi, India has achieved historic milestones in science, technology, defence, economy and global diplomacy. Referring to the success of Chandrayaan-3, Sh. Vij said India became the first country to successfully land near the Moon’s south pole, showcasing the nation’s scientific prowess to the world. He said Haryana has played a significant role in this national development journey, making notable progress in social and economic development, education, health, sports, agriculture and industry. The grand memorial being built in Ambala Cantonment in memory of the martyrs of the 1857 First War of Independence is in its final stage. Around 5,000 visitors daily will be able to pay tribute to the unsung heroes, and with the Ambala airstrip ready, people from across the country will be able to visit the memorial conveniently.

Respect for Soldiers and Commitment to Martyrs’ Families

Calling Haryana the land of the brave, Sh. Vij said the spirit of national service among the youth remains strong, and nearly every tenth soldier in the Indian Army is from Haryana. He said the state government remains fully committed to the welfare of soldiers and martyrs’ families. He informed that the ex-gratia amount for martyrs of the armed forces, paramilitary forces and Agniveers has been increased to Rs.1 crore. So far, 418 dependents of martyrs have been provided government jobs on compassionate grounds, and 10% reservation in direct recruitment for Agniveers has been implemented to ensure long-term support and dignity for such families.

Good Governance, Social Security and Public Welfare

Sh. Vij said the present government is working with the mantra of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas” and “Haryana Ek–Haryanvi Ek”, placing public service at the core of governance. Through extensive use of information technology, administration has been made transparent, accountable and citizen-friendly. He highlighted key welfare initiatives, including Rs. 71,000 Shagun for the marriage of daughters from poor families, Rs. 3,200 monthly pension for senior citizens, widows and persons with disabilities, direct transfer of crop payments to farmers, and free healthcare up to Rs. 5 lakh under the Ayushman Bharat–Chirayu Scheme.

Historic Initiatives in Housing, Education and Employment

Sh. Vij said under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, 98,860 houses have been allotted so far, while 49,670 houses are under construction. Under the Mukhya Mantri Shahri Awas Yojana, 15,256 plots have been allotted, and 12,031 plots under the rural scheme. Through the Chirag Scheme, children from poor families are receiving education in private schools. The Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam ensures priority employment and job security for youth from economically weaker sections.

Agriculture, Water Conservation and Rural Development

Referring to agricultural reforms, Sh. Vij said payments for 24 crops through the “Meri Fasal–Mera Byora” portal are credited to farmers’ accounts within 48 hours. Sugarcane farmers are being paid up to Rs.415 per quintal, and under PM-Kisan, Rs.7,234 crore has been disbursed to 20.17 lakh farmers in 21 instalments. Natural farming is being promoted on 1 lakh acres, with 30,000 incentive for purchasing indigenous cows and 70 crore is being spent on rehabilitation of stray cattle. Water conservation efforts include modernization of 152 canal channels, approval of 1,000 recharge wells benefiting 8,000 acres, installation of 158 rainwater harvesting systems, and revival of 11,034 ponds.

Self-Reliance in the Energy Sector

Sh. Vij reiterated that electricity is a basic necessity. AT&C losses have reduced from 30.3% to 9.97%, and 6,019 villages are receiving 24-hour power supply under the ‘Mhara Gaon-Jagmag Gaon’ scheme. He said the foundation stone for an 800 MW Ultra Super Critical Unit at Yamunanagar was laid on April 14, 2025. New 800 MW power plants are proposed at Panipat and Khedar (Hisar). Under the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, subsidies ranging from Rs.30,000 to Rs.78,000 are being provided for rooftop solar installations, with 37,308 rooftop systems installed so far.

Transport, Urban Development and Future Haryana

Speaking on transport, Sh. Vij said it is not merely a means of travel but a foundation of social harmony and economic growth. Approval has been granted to increase the state transport bus fleet from 4,500 to 5,300 buses. 375 AC electric buses have been sanctioned, and under the PM E-Bus Service Project, 450 e-buses will operate in 10 cities. Sh. Vij said Republic Day reminds citizens of their duties along with rights. He urged everyone to imbibe constitutional values and contribute collectively towards building a Strong and Developed India. On the occasion, he also honoured families of freedom fighters and senior citizens.

Chandigarh, January 26 – Haryana’s Energy Minister Sh. Anil Vij said that efforts are being made to remove 33 kV and 66 kV high-tension electricity lines passing over residential colonies in the state. He said that in addition, electricity poles uprooted and feeders and transformers damaged due to strong winds and rainfall in recent days are being repaired.

Sh. Anil Vij was responding to questions from media persons in Yamunanagar after the Republic Day function. He said that in cases where electricity lines pass over houses, it is examined whether the line was laid first or the house was constructed earlier. If the house was built later, the concerned person has to deposit the estimated cost for shifting the electricity line.

Responding to a question regarding power disruptions caused by recent storms and rain, the Energy Minister said that there has been some damage to electricity infrastructure and it is estimated that at least hundreds of electricity poles were uprooted. All officials and employees of the power department are engaged in restoring these poles. Similarly, a large number of transformers were affected and are also being repaired. In his characteristic style, Sh. Vij said, “I do not allow power supply to stop anywhere, and I personally monitor the situation.”

On the occasion of Republic Day, he said that the entire year is spent waiting for Republic Day as it is a day of national pride and honour. On this day in 1950, India received its Constitution, which is celebrated with great enthusiasm. He said that Indian soldiers protect the country’s borders while working under extremely difficult and adverse conditions. He added that reports are coming in about an accident in which many soldiers have been martyred. He said that the people of the country always hold soldiers in the highest respect, and therefore, the nation bows in salute to them.

Responding to questions about the Congress party, Sh. Anil Vij said that Congress has become a broken and fragmented party and is being wiped out from across the country. He said that after winning in Haryana, Delhi and Bihar, the Bharatiya Janata Party has also won the BMC elections in Maharashtra, and will now win in West Bengal as well. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi, the BJP’s victory march is continuing and will keep moving forward, as Congress continues to lose and will keep losing.

Commenting on Rahul Gandhi’s visit for a training programme, Sh. Vij said that Rahul Gandhi has come here to impart training, but he believes that the Congress leader only has expertise in making the party lose elections and will train others to do the same. He further said that Rahul Gandhi made a highly inappropriate statement which every Indian should condemn. Referring to Rahul Gandhi’s remark that just as the Mughals and the British left, the BJP would also leave, Sh. Vij said that the Mughals and the British were foreigners, whereas the BJP is indigenous. He said that the BJP was born in this very land and carries forward Indian culture and national. He added that it is Congress which has foreign roots, as it was founded in 1885 by a British officer, A.O. Hume. Sh. Vij said that if Rahul Gandhi claims that outsiders left the country, then Congress too will be shown the door, and only the BJP will rule here.
