MAHENDERGARH, 11.11.25-The Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh, in association with Haryana State Higher Education Council, Panchkula and Vidya Bharati Uchcha Shiksha Sansthan, Haryana organized a one-day Workshop on “Developing Content in Chemistry on Bharatiya Gyan Parampara (BKS)” on November 11, 2025.
The event was aimed to promote academic discourse and collaborative efforts toward integrating India’s rich traditional knowledge systems with modern scientific education, particularly in the field of Chemistry. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from 19 eminent faculty members representing several reputed universities and colleges across Haryana.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, graced the event as the Chief Guest and delivered the Inaugural Address. In his remarks, he underscored the importance of rediscovering timeless Indian scientific wisdom and contextualizing it in modern educational frameworks. Prof. Kumar emphasized that disciplines such as Chemistry can be enriched by revisiting traditional concepts of matter, elements, and natural processes as documented in ancient Indian texts. He urged faculty members and researchers to contribute to developing resource materials and content that reflect the synergy between ancient Indian thought and contemporary scientific understanding. "Weaving the organically distilled scientific content from numerous texts from the golden period of knowledge based society of Bharat into the contemporary curricula will not only foster rootedness in our youth but will also provide them with an opportunity to feel proud of their glorious past" he said.
Prof. Raj Kishore Sharma from the University of Delhi shared his deep insights on the theme “Developing Chemistry Content on Bharatiya Gyan Parampara (BKS).” He elaborated on how Indian philosophical traditions viewed natural phenomena and discussed ways in which these concepts could be pedagogically integrated into Chemistry curricula. Citing numerous examples, he delved into practical ways and means of integrating IKS into Chemistry subject with authentic sources and references so that the curious minds of undergraduate students understand that they are not dealing merely with the history of Chemistry but revealing the deep scientific works of our great Rishis.
Dr. Pijus Kanti Pal from the Ministry of Education (MoE), Delhi discussed various government initiatives and funding opportunities available for the promotion of Bharatiya Gyan Parampara-based academic content development. He also shared the insights about the efforts of the IKS division of MoE in content development and soon to be launched Bhartiya Bhasha Pustak Scheme (BBPS) for writing books.
Prof. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Pro Vice-Chancellor, CUH, discussed how NEP-Based Curricula can be aligned with Bharatiya Gyan Parampara. He explained how the NEP 2020 envisions a holistic, multidisciplinary education system that values India’s cultural and intellectual legacy. Prof. Sharma emphasized the need for Chemistry educators to reinterpret classical Indian texts and integrate their scientific essence into contemporary course design to promote contextual learning.
The participants discussed ideas, shared perspectives, and explored collaborative opportunities for developing BKS-based Chemistry content during query session.
Prof. Surender Singh, Director, IQAC, CUH, while welcoming the dignitaries and participants, highlighted the objectives of the workshop, emphasizing the importance of blending traditional Indian knowledge systems with modern science in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Prof. Suman, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, resource persons, and participants for their insightful contributions and active engagement throughout the workshop.
