Mann Conducted the SIR Himself and Is Now Raising Questions About It: Kewal Dhillon
Chandigarh, October 23, 2026-Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon has strongly criticised Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over his speech in the state Assembly on Friday regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Calling Mann’s speech Surprising, Dhillon said, “You run the state government, your officers carried out the exercise, and you yourself conducted the SIR. Now you are the one raising questions about it.”
The BJP state president said the entire process was carried out by the state government’s administrative machinery. From Deputy Commissioners and Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to officials at the booth level, all the personnel involved were under the state government’s administration. The Centre had no role in the exercise, he asserted. “If your officers made mistakes during the SIR, why did your party leaders visit the Election Commission and claim that everything was in order?” Dhillon asked.
He pointed out that while the Chief Minister was alleging irregularities in the SIR in the Assembly, leaders from his own party were telling the Election Commission that everything was fine. He challenged Mann to identify even a single voter in the state whose name had been wrongly deleted from the electoral rolls.
Dhillon said that if any irregularities had indeed occurred, it would be a serious matter for which the state government itself would be responsible. He described Mann’s remarks as evidence of what he called an incompetent government, alleging that it had lost its ability to think clearly and make sound decisions. He added that Mann appeared to have lost faith even in his own ministers and officials.
Dhillon said that when the SIR exercise began in Punjab, Mann had promised that no voter in the state would be allowed to have their name deleted from the electoral rolls. If anyone’s name had been wrongly removed, the Chief Minister must answer for it, he said. Mann could not evade responsibility by making baseless allegations against the Central Government, Dhillon added.
The BJP president further alleged that the AAP government lacked the courage to answer questions from the public. He said the government was under pressure over several serious issues, including pending dearness allowance (DA) payments, the drug menace, the killing of people who had spoken out against drugs, gangsterism, deteriorating law and order, and Punjab’s mounting debt. Dhillon alleged that the Chief Minister was making such absurd statements to divert public attention from these pressing issues.

Ajay Kumar murder case: Sunil Jakhar joins family’s protest outside Vidhan Sabha for second consecutive day
- “We will have to return repeatedly to make this deaf government hear us”
- Jakhar accuses AAP government of patronising criminals
- Despite Ajay’s statement before his death, police have not not registered FIR or acted against the actual culprits, family alleges
- Sisodia and Kejriwal are criminalising Punjab’s politics, says Jakhar
- Jakhar alleges police protection is being provided to a person involved in a ₹220 crore bank fraud to prevent the auction of his properties
Chandigarh, October 23:On the second day of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha session, former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar again joined the family of Ajay Kumar of Abohar for a sit-in outside the Assembly. The family had also protested outside the Vidhan Sabha yesterday. Ajay Kumar was shot outside a temple in Abohar last month and died during treatment on October 19. His family alleges that the police have failed to act against the actual culprits despite the statement he gave before his death. It is also pertinent to mention that testimony by Ajay’s brother had led to the conviction of the accused in Abohar’s widely reported 2015 Bhim murder case. The family is now accusing the same people of involvement in Ajay’s murder.
Speaking on the occasion, Sunil Jakhar demanded that the government register an FIR based on Ajay Kumar’s statement before his death.
“We are being forced to return here repeatedly to make this deaf government hear us. Yet neither the Chief Minister nor any minister in his government has the courage to listen to this family’s plea,” he said. Jakhar alleged that the person accused by the family is a favourite of Manish Sisodia and Arvind Kejriwal, adding that Kejriwal himself had blessed him on the very day Ajay was murdered.
Accusing the Aam Aadmi Party of criminalising politics, Jakhar said the party was bringing criminal elements into politics as part of a strategy to win elections by any means. He said that providing police protection to a criminal serving life-sentence who is out on bail and covering up his wrongdoing demonstrated the AAP government’s double standards.
“One can easily imagine the plight of ordinary people in a city where the police are placed at a criminal’s disposal,” he said.
Jakhar further alleged that the person in question had committed a ₹220 crore bank fraud in collusion with certain PNB bank officials. He claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party had provided him with police protection to prevent the bank from recovering its dues by auctioning his properties.
“The AAP’s affinity for gangsters and criminal elements is now out in the open,” he said. Jakhar said he would accompany the family to the protest every day for as long as the Assembly session continued.
On the occasion, Ajay’s mother and sister described the circumstances of the case to the media. They alleged that the person who committed the murder had posted a video threatening people while referring to his political patron, Sholi. They further alleged that this same political patron had been appointed the Aam Aadmi Party’s head in Abohar.
Ajay’s body remains at Abohar Civil Hospital, where members of the community are also continuing a sit-in demanding justice.

Case Against BJP Leader Barinder Bittu for Raising Voice Against Drugs Must Be Withdrawn Immediately: Sampla
Jalandhar: October 23-The police case registered against BJP leader Barinder Kumar Bittu and his associates for facilitating the recovery of intoxicating medicines from the shop of Aam Aadmi Party leader Mamdeen Khan in Bhadson must be withdrawn immediately. Taking serious note of what he described as a vindictive case against BJP leaders, former Punjab BJP State President Vijay Sampla demanded the immediate withdrawal of the case and an impartial investigation into the drug recovery case.
He said that the protest march organised by BJP supporters in Bhadson over the issue reflected public concern about the drug problem. He warned that if the cases against BJP workers were not withdrawn immediately, the party would launch a larger agitation over the matter.
He said that Barinder Bittu had facilitated the recovery of intoxicating medicines from the doors-and-windows shop owned by Aam Aadmi Party leader Mamdeen Khan. When the police allegedly hesitated to take action against him under political pressure, Bittu and his associates protested against the inaction through democratic means. However, the AAP leader was granted bail immediately after a case was registered against him, while a case was allegedly registered against Barinder Kumar and his associates out of political vendetta.
Vijay Sampla demanded an impartial review of the FIR registered against Barinder Bittu and his associates. He also called for a fully transparent investigation into the original case concerning the alleged recovery of prohibited capsules.

Anil Sarin Demands That Bhagwant Mann Make Airport Fine Receipt Public
Chandigarh, October 23, 2026-BJP Punjab State General Secretary Anil Sarin has challenged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to explain why the Customs Department fined him ₹50,000 at Delhi Airport and demanded that he make the receipt public. Sarin questioned what the Chief Minister had brought back from abroad that prompted the Customs Department to take action.
Speaking to the media in Chandigarh on Friday, Anil Sarin said Mann could not evade accountability by claiming that the head of the Customs Department at Delhi Airport is the brother of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He dismissed the Chief Minister’s claim as ridiculous. Sarin accused Mann and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of attempting to mislead the public through baseless allegations. He said the Chief Minister must first clarify which items had led to him being stopped at Delhi Airport and why the Customs Department had imposed the fine. Before making allegations against others, Mann should come clean on the facts of the matter, he added.
Sarin further pointed out that passengers arriving at and departing from Delhi Airport are routinely subject to security checks and customs procedures. He said that while the Chief Minister might be exempt from personal screening under protocol, his luggage would not necessarily enjoy the same exemption. The exemption, he added, would not automatically extend to members of his entourage either.
Anil Sarin accused Mann of attempting to politicise the Customs Department’s action instead of providing a clear explanation of the incident.
