Chandigarh, June 30:- A 31-member delegation comprising officials from the District Urban Development Cell, Hospet District, Karnataka, today visited the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh to study the city's best practices and innovative initiatives in the field of Solid Waste Management.

During the visit, officers of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh briefed the delegation on various initiatives undertaken by the civic body to ensure efficient collection, segregation, processing and disposal of municipal solid waste. The delegation was apprised of Chandigarh's efforts towards achieving sustainability through citizen participation, technology-driven solutions and circular economy principles.

The delegation first visited the Pink Material Recovery Facility (MRF), Sector 25, where they observed the systematic segregation and processing of dry waste. Officials explained the operational framework of the facility, secondary segregation techniques and resource recovery mechanisms that help maximize recycling and reduce the burden on landfills.

The visiting team also toured the Solid Waste Management Plant at Dadumajra, where they were briefed about Chandigarh's integrated waste management system. The officials explained various stages of waste handling, including collection, transportation, segregation, processing and scientific disposal of municipal solid waste. The delegation appreciated the structured and efficient approach adopted by the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh in managing urban waste.

Subsequently, the delegation visited the Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste Processing Plant, where they witnessed the recycling of construction and demolition waste into reusable construction materials. The officials were informed about the processing methodology and the environmental benefits of diverting C&D waste from landfills while promoting resource conservation and sustainable construction practices.

The members of the Karnataka delegation lauded the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh for its robust waste management infrastructure and innovative practices. They expressed keen interest in adopting similar initiatives in their respective urban local bodies to strengthen waste management systems and improve environmental sustainability.

The MC Chandigarh reiterated its commitment to sharing knowledge and best practices with urban local bodies across the country and promoting sustainable, environmentally responsible and citizen-centric waste management solutions.
