Chandigarh, 5 June: On the occasion of World Environment Day, NSS Units, Eco-Club ‘Parivesh’, and Landscaping Committee of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in collaboration with Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration, and Mission LiFE, organised a series of activities under the aegis of National Green Corps (NGC). Reaffirming the institution’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development, the celebration was aligned with the themes “Inspired by Nature: For Climate, For Our Future” and “Say No to Single-Use Plastic”.

As part of the observance, an awareness session on Waste Segregation was conducted in Village Badheri, Sector 41-D, Chandigarh. The programme was graced by Councillor Mr. Hardeep Singh Buterla, along with social workers Ms. Aanchal and Ms. Reena from Ward II, who appreciated the college’s efforts in promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices within the community. During the session, Eco-Club volunteers Ms. Lakshita and Ms. Jiya sensitised residents about various categories of waste, the importance of segregation at source, and the role of responsible waste management in ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment. The interactive programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from residents, who pledged to adopt waste segregation practices in their daily lives.

To further strengthen the message of environmental stewardship, a plantation drive was organised at the college campus with the support of State Bank of India, MCM Branch, Chandigarh. Saplings of Mussaenda and Chandni were planted to enhance the green cover and contribute towards a healthier ecosystem. The programme concluded with the administration of the Mission LiFE Pledge, taken by residents, staff, and students. The pledge underscored the importance of adopting environmentally responsible lifestyles and sustainable practices for the conservation of natural resources.

Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma lauded the dedicated efforts of the NSS Units, Eco-Club ‘Parivesh’, and Landscaping Committee in spreading environmental awareness and encouraging community participation. She emphasised that collective action and responsible behaviour are crucial for building a sustainable future and effectively addressing environmental challenges.
