Sunam Udham Singh Wala ,(Sangrur)/Chandigarg, January 9 - Addressing a press conference of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the town of Sunam in Sangrur district today, BJP Punjab Scheduled Caste Morcha Vice President Paramjit Singh Kainth said that the primary objective of the "Viksit Bharat—Guarantee for "Viksit Bharat—Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), (VB—G RAM G) Act, 2025," is to ensure the socio-economic welfare of rural workers, secure employment, and sustainable livelihoods. The Act clearly incorporates several important commitments in the interest of workers. He further stated that instead of conducting high-level investigations into the alleged irregularities related to misuse and fraud of funds under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress Party are indulging in political opportunism. He said that such failed attempts to complicate extremely sensitive issues should be condemned, and political parties should not play with the future of rural workers for their own interests.
Kainth said that first and foremost, under the provision of employment guarantee and continuity, income stability will be ensured by providing demand-driven employment in rural areas, year-round work opportunities, and a minimum number of prescribed workdays. The BJP leader stated that under the provisions of fair wages and timely payment, payment below the statutory minimum wage is strictly prohibited. Direct digital payments, penalties for delays, and a transparent muster roll system have been made mandatory. He further said that the Act gives special importance to skill development and upward mobility. There is a clear commitment to increasing workers’ productivity and employability through locally relevant training, apprenticeships, and reskilling programmes.
Kainth stated that the Act focuses on sustainable employment and local asset creation, prioritising long-term job generation through water conservation, soil improvement, green energy initiatives, and development of local infrastructure. He added that the VB-G Ram G Act is not limited to providing immediate employment alone but is an important step towards building a strong and sustainable livelihood base through skill development, social security, and long-term rural development. He also appealed to organisations fighting for the rights of MGNREGA workers to put pressure on Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to ensure impartial investigations into irregularities and scams of previous years, protect the rights of workers whose employment has been taken away, expose the anti-MGNREGA policies of the Aam Aadmi Party, and bring to light the alleged large-scale scams that took place during the Congress regime.
