Chandigarh, 17 November: The Department of Home Science at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in collaboration with Viksit Bharat Abhiyan Committee, organised an engaging creative workshop titled ‘Trash to Trend’. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about sustainable fashion while encouraging students to convert discarded materials into trendy, functional fashion accessories. The workshop was led by Dr. Rati Arora, Assistant Professor at the department, who guided students to repurpose waste materials creatively through innovative techniques.

The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation as students transformed waste items such as fabric scraps, beads, threads, and cords into beautifully crafted earrings, pendants, bangles, hair clips, bows, scrunchies, bracelets, bags, and other accessories. The activity reinforced the concept of ‘Best out of Waste’, underscoring the significance of recycling and environmental conservation in the contemporary fashion landscape. The event culminated in a vibrant display of the students’ creations, which drew great appreciation from all the visitors.

Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma remarked that the workshop proved to be an inspiring and educational experience, seamlessly blending creativity, sustainability, and hands-on skill development. She further emphasised that such initiatives not only foster artistic expression and craftsmanship but also instil a strong sense of environmental responsibility among students.
