Ludhiana 29 September 2025-Dr. Simranpreet Kaur, Centre for One Health, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana delivered an invited talk on the topic “One health Perspective: The Veterinarian's role in Rabies elimination” in the prestigious RABIESCON 2025: National Conference on Rabies.
It was organized at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh on the occasion of World Rabies Day. Dr Kaur said that 97% of the rabies burden in India is due to dogs. Free roaming dogs being the major contributors in the spread of rabies. She further emphasized the vital role of veterinarians in rabies prevention and control through dog vaccination and surveillance, community education and awareness, strengthening collaboration between medical and veterinary professionals and thereby promoting One Health approach to achieve the global target of Zero Human Deaths from Dog-Mediated Rabies by 2030.
The conference brought together experts and researchers from human and animal health sectors, reaffirming the need for interdisciplinary cooperation and One Health partnerships in the fight against rabies.
Dr JPS Gill, Vice Chancellor applauded the efforts of Center for One Health for capacity building and being the front runners in the state regarding scientific efforts for prevention and control of zoonotic diseases. He further emphasized that working together via awareness drives, vaccination camps, educational programs, and partnerships across sectors (health, veterinary, local governments) can help us effectively achieve the goal of eliminating dog mediated rabies by 2030.
