Chandigarh, July 5, 2025: Eco Club-Parivesh, NSS units, and the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Cell of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, came together to celebrate Vanmahotsav with a meaningful plantation drive under the banner of ‘Ek Paed Maa ke Naam’. The event, rooted in environmental stewardship and emotional connection with nature, was held in collaboration with the Department of Forest and Wildlife, Chandigarh Administration; Mission LiFE; and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The plantation drive aimed not only to advocate environment conservation but also to cultivate a personal and emotional commitment to nature, urging participants to dedicate each tree to their mothers as a symbol of gratitude and care.
The Chief Guest for the occasion, Mr. Jitender Ahlawat, IFS, Conservator of Forest, North Circle, Ambala, Haryana, graced the event with his presence and emphasised the need for grassroots-level environmental activism. He highlighted the importance of tree plantation as a sustainable solution to counter the effects of climate change and biodiversity loss. With enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, staff and volunteers, the celebration of Vanmahotsav at MCM served as a heartfelt tribute to Mother Nature and motherhood alike- fostering a future rooted in responsibility and reverence for the environment.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma lauded the efforts of the organisers and reiterated the college’s unwavering commitment to promoting ecological consciousness among students. She emphasised that initiatives like these not only nurture the environment but also strengthen the emotional and cultural fabric of the community.
