Mayor starts the project of storm water drainage system near EWS colony, sector 37

Chandigarh, March 16:- With the aim of strengthening the storm water drainage system in Sector 37, Chandigarh, City Mayor Sh. Kuldeep Kumar has commenced work on the Storm water Drainage Network project for smooth disposal of storm water near the EWS colony here today in the presence of Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Area Councillor Sh. Yogesh Dhingra, other councilors and other prominent residents of local area.

During the event, the Mayor emphasized that this endeavor will not only enhance the storm water drainage system but also prevent rainwater stagnation, ensuring a seamless passage for commuters and local residents.

He said that the existing road gullies were inadequate, leading to line blockages and improper rainwater disposal. The stagnation of rainwater causes inconvenience to both residents and commuters. He said that to address these issues, the installation of new larger diameter pipes, road gullies, and the construction of channels/drains covered with M.S. Gratings are necessary for effective rainwater disposal in the affected areas.

Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Municipal Commissioner said that MCC has allocated approximately Rs. 46.97 Lakh for this project, which will be completed within four months. She highlighted that during the monsoon season, rainwater accumulates in the low-lying areas of the EWS Colony in Sector-37, Chandigarh, entering Gali No.1 to 6 due to smaller diameter pipelines, which are insufficient for quick drainage during heavy rain. This project aims to improve the overall drainage capacity of Sector-37, Chandigarh, she added.
