VB NABS PRIVATE PERSON FOR DEMANDING BRIBE OF RS 7K IN NAME OF TEHSILDAR

· Role of Tehsildar & Patwari concerned is being examined

Chandigarh, August3-Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) nabbed a private person, Raman Kaura, presented himself as a Patwari of Kohara in Ludhiana district, for demanding a bribe of Rs 7000 in the name of Tehsildar.

An official spokesperson of the VB said that Amarjeet Singh resident of Ishar Nagar, Ludhiana lodged a complaint on Anti Corruption Action Line that the accused Raman Kaura demanded a bribe of Rs 7000 in the name of Tehsildar to get registered a mutation of property in the name of his mother-in-law Sunita Devi and her children after the death of his father-in-law Rattan Chand. The complainant also produced an audio recording in this regard.

After investigation of the complaint, the spokesperson said that a team of VB arrested Raman Kaura after registering an FIR no. 19 Dated 02.08.2023 under section 7-A of Prevention of Corruption Act at Police Station Vigilance Bureau, Ludhiana Range. Role of the Tehsildar and Patwari concerned posted at Kohara is also being examined, he added.

He said that it is the need of the hour for all the secular parties to come together and launch a crusade against the forces that spread hatred and violence in the society.

Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan strongly raised voice against this phenomenon and said that there should be no place for such heinous crime in civilized society. He slammed the present BJP-JJP government of Haryana and said that Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has completely failed to discharge his duty to safeguard the people.

Mr. Sandhwan demanded a thorough probe to find out the causes of the violence and unearth the entire conspiracy to book the culprits of this sin. He said that after Nuh district, this communal violence has reached Gurugram and other parts of the state. He vigorously demanded to curb this phenomenon nip in the bud to save democratic and human values.

Chandigarh/Amritsar, August 3:Amidst the ongoing drive against drugs launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Police busted a cross-border drug smuggling racket with the arrest of one person after recovering 6Kg heroin and Rs 1.5 lakh drug money from his possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Thursday.

The arrested accused has been identified as Shinder Singh, a resident of village Bute Dian Chhana in Mehatpur, Jalandhar. The accused is a habitual drug smuggler and has already been facing two criminal cases under the NDPS Act.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar had received reliable input that accused Shinder Singh and his accomplices had recently procured the big consignment of heroin pushed into the Indian territory by the Pak-based smugglers and agencies using the riverine route in Ferozepur sector, and they are present around Amritsar to deliver the consignment to a party.

“Acting promptly, the Special Police team of SSOC Amritsar launched an operation and cordoned off the area in a planned manner resulting in the arrest of accused Shinder Singh,” he said.

Sharing more details about the preliminary investigations, AIG SSOC Sukhminder Singh Mann said that it has come to light that the Pak-based smugglers have exploited a gap— emerged due to floods— in the fencing along the river to smuggle the drug consignment via the riverine route in the Ferozepur sector a few days back.

He said that further investigations are being conducted to unearth the entire network of drug suppliers, dealers and their buyers. Efforts are being made to probe their backward and forward linkages to take the investigations to the logical conclusion by the arrest of remaining members of this group, he added.

A case FIR No. 23 dated 03.08.2023 has been registered under sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station SSOC Amritsar and the accused will be produced in the court for police remand in due course.

VB NABS GOVT AMBULANCE DRIVER WHILE ACCEPTING BRIBE OF RS 4000

Chandigarh, August 3: Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Thursday nabbed a Driver, Jaspal Singh alias Lucky, deputed at Government Ambulance of Gurdaspur Civil Hospital, for accepting a bribe of Rs 4000. The accused has been arrested on the complaint of a private ambulance driver Rajesh Kumar.

Divulging details here today, an official spokesperson of the VB said that Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Gurdaspur had lodged a complaint that Government Ambulance driver Jaspal Singh was demanding a share out of fare being received by private ambulance drivers for transporting patients to other cities.

After preliminary investigation of the complaint, he said that a team of VB Unit Gurdaspur laid a trap and arrested the accused driver while accepting a bribe of Rs 4000 from the complainant in the presence of official witnesses.

In this regard, the spokesperson said that an FIR no 25 dated 03-08-2023 under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the driver Jaspal Singh at Police Station VB, Amritsar Range.

VIGILANCE BUREAU REGISTERS DA CASE AGAINST FORMER MEDIA ADVISER BHARAT INDER SINGH CHAHAL

• Former Media Adviser spent 305% more than his known sources of income

Chandigarh, August 3:Amidst its ongoing campaign against corruption launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in the state, Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has registered a Disproportionate Asset (DA) case against Bharat Inder Singh Chahal, former media adviser to former CM Captain Amarinder Singh.

Disclosing the details about the case here today, an official spokesperson of the VB said that an FIR no. 26 dated 02-08-2023 under sections 13(1) B, 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against Bharat Inder Singh Chahal at Police Station VB, Patiala Range.

During the check period from March 2017 to September 2021, he said that the income of former media adviser Chahal and his family members was Rs 7,85,16,905 against the expenditure of Rs 31,79,89,011, which was almost 305% more than his known sources of income.

The accused Bharat Inder Singh Chahal had made properties in his own and his family members’ names, which include Dashmesh Luxury Wedding Resort (Alcazar) situated at Sirhind road Patiala, a five-storey commercial building measuring 2595 yards (Animal Husbandry Dept site) situated on Mini Secretariat road Patiala, 72 canals 14 marla land at village Kalyan near Toll Plaza on Nabha road. Apart from this, he also bought lands at villages of Malaheri and Harbanspura in Fatehgarh Sahib district, he added.

The spokesperson said that further investigation is on in the case.

Chandigarh, August 3 Punjab Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema on Thursday said that the state Taxation Department will adopt latest software and technological solutions to strengthen its digital tax administration to meet the challenges of the environment in which businesses are operating now days.

Chairing a review meeting with the officials of Taxation Commissionerate who visited Telangana to study its GST administration, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the digital technologies adopted by newly setup Tax Intelligence Unit (TIU) were proving to assist the tax authorities to drive better enforcement, increasing the tax base, and plugging leakages. He encouraged the officials to look for more technological solutions especially tailored as per the requirements of the state to plug any possible tax evasion, incorrect reporting, and administrative errors.

Meanwhile, Taxation Commissionerate Team shared its experiences about study tour of Telangana and elaborated the best practices adopted by the state in the GST Administration. A PowerPoint presentation was given by the team showing the practices such as online monitoring system, return compliance, scrutiny of returns, post audit of refund etc. being followed by Telangana. They apprised the Finance Minister that the state of Telangana is being assisted by IIT Hyderabad in data analytics and development of IT based modules in the implementation of GST administration.

Cheema exhorted the team to devise a strategy to integrate the best practices of Telangana with the best practices already being followed by Punjab. He said that the tech tools should be friendly to honest taxpayers as they need a clear strategy and will be required to keep pace with the evolving digital tax administration.

Prominent amongst others, Financial Commissioner Taxation Vikas Partap and Taxation Commissioner Kamal Kishore Yadav were also present in the meeting.

In a brief and impressive function held at Punjab Bhawan, Meet Hayer reiterated the commitment of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to make every effort to create job opportunities in govt and private sector at the local level, so that youth can earn their livelihood. He said that the State Government has provided government jobs to more than 30,000 youth in the last one year.

Congratulating the newly recruited officials, the Minister asked them to discharge their duties with utmost dedication, honesty and with professional integrity as theirs is a very important post being responsible for carrying out a basic survey on which all plans and works estimates are prepared.

He added that over the last two decades, both Soil & Water Conservation and Water Resource departments have assumed a greater role and importance, especially in the context of deteriorating groundwater resources and called upon department’s officers present to come up with innovative techniques for augmenting ground water level and also to maximize the use of surface water in the agriculture sector.
