New Delhi / Chandigarh: 27-03-2023-Appreciating the pilot project of DigiClaim recently launched by the Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, S. Vikramjit Sahney MP Rajyasabha today requested him to include Punjab also for the Digiclaim. With the launch of DigiClaim, farmers can get claims for crop damage disbursed electronically in their account. Sh. Sahney, who is also Chair of BRICS Agri Council requested Union Agriculture Minister to start the operations of DigiClaim in Punjab as well.

Applauding the Punjab government for taking decision on implementation of Fasal Beema Yojana (Crop Insurance Scheme), S. Vikramjit Sahney, MP Rajyasabha said that from last three consecutive years the crop damage due to untimely heavy rainfall was going almost 15 % of the yielded crop. He thanked the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for taking immediate cognizance of the crop damage and ordering field survey for cash compensation to the farmers enhanced by 25 per cent from last year.

Sh. Sahney said that it is our duty to safeguard the economic interests of our food producers. In purview of that Fasal Beema Yojna is a very good tool to deal with natural calamities like Heavy Rainfall, Storm, Damage by Insects like Pink Bollworm etc. where the Maximum Premium payable by the farmers for Kharif and Rabi crops will be 2% and 1.5% respectively. while the rest will be shared by State and Central government equally.

Sh. Sahney said that due to crop damage Wheat Prices are heating up which fuels inflation fears. According to the ministry of consumer affairs, food and public distribution, wheat prices had shot up by 14% in 2022. The cash compensation to farmers and adaptation of Crop Insurance Scheme will help farmers to get more disposable income and this will check the heating up of Crop Prices and Inflation as a whole.
