ASMITA League Organised in Chandigarh to Celebrate International Women’s Day

Chandigarh, 8 March 2026:To celebrate International Women’s Day, the ASMITA League was successfully organised by MY Bharat Chandigarh and the Sports Authority of India in collaboration with the Sports Department, Chandigarh Administration at the Sports Complex, Sector 46, Chandigarh on 8th March 2026.

The event was organised under the ASMITA initiative (Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action) aimed at promoting women’s participation in sports and encouraging fitness and active living among girls and women across different age groups.

The event featured athletics competitions including 100 metres, 200 metres and 400 metres races conducted across three age categories — Under 13 years, 13–18 years and above 18 years. In addition to the competitive events, fun activities such as Lemon Spoon Race and Three-Legged Race were also organised to encourage wider participation and create a festive sporting environment.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from young girls as young as 5 years to women up to 60 years of age, reflecting the inclusive spirit of the initiative and highlighting the growing interest of women and girls in sports and fitness.

The programme was graced by Smt. Suman Sharma, Deputy Mayor, Chandigarh; Dr. Mahinder Singh, Joint Director Sports, Chandigarh Administration; and Sh. Vinay Kumar, District Youth Officer, MY Bharat Chandigarh, who motivated the participants and appreciated the efforts taken to promote sports among women and girls.

Winners of the various events were awarded medals and certificates, recognising their performance and encouraging them to pursue sports and fitness activities.

The ASMITA League served as a vibrant platform to celebrate women’s empowerment through sports, while fostering a culture of fitness, confidence and community participation among women and girls in Chandigarh.

The programme aimed at encouraging women’s participation in sports and promoting the spirit of fitness, empowerment and equality among girls and women athletes.

The celebrations commenced in the early morning with a Sunrise Yoga Session, promoting physical and mental well-being. This was followed by an energetic Zumba session which saw enthusiastic participation from girls and women. A Self-Defence Awareness Session was also organised to educate participants about basic safety techniques and personal protection.

Powerlifting Events Begin at All India Civil Services Weightlifting & Powerlifting Tournament 2025–26

The Powerlifting events of the All India Civil Services Weightlifting & Powerlifting Tournament 2025–26 (Men & Women) commenced today at the Weightlifting Hall, Sports Complex, Sector-42, Chandigarh. The championship is being organized by the Sports Department, Chandigarh Administration under the aegis of the Central Civil Services Cultural & Sports Board (CCSCSB), New Delhi and will continue till 10 March 2026.
Around 400 participants from various Central Government departments and organizations across the country are taking part in the championship. From today onwards, Powerlifting competitions have started.
