WOMAN AMONG FOUR HELD FOR ASSAULTING, STRIPPING AND PARADING WOMAN IN TARN TARAN

CHANDIGARH/TARN TARAN, April 6:The Tarn Taran Police has arrested four persons including a woman for assaulting and parading a woman in a semi-naked condition in the street of village Voltoha, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tarn Taran Ashwani Kapur here on Saturday.

Those arrested have been identified as Kulwinder Kaur, Gurcharan Singh and Sharanjit Singh alias Sunny, all residents of Jivan Nagar in Valtoha and Sunny of village Abadi Amarkot Amirke in Tarn Taran.

The incident took place on the evening of March 31, around a month after the victim’s son eloped with a woman and married her against her family’s wishes.

SSP Ashwani Kapur said that the victim was alone at her home Kulwinder Kaur (mother of an eloped girl) along with Gurcharan, Sharanjit, Sunny and one unknown person came to her house to avenge the marriage and following heated arguments, they that started assaulting her and also tore off her clothes. The video of a purported incident, wherein a woman was seen paraded, was also made viral by the accused persons, he added.

He said that further investigations are on and the remaining accused will be arrested soon.

A case FIR no 20 dated 3/4/2024 had already been registered under sections 354, 354-B, 354-D, 323 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Police Station Valtoha in Tarn Taran. Later, Police have also added sections 67 and 67-A of the IT Act in the FIR.

Chandigarh, April 6: In light of the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections-2024, a special holiday has been declared for voters of Haryana who are employed in Punjab, allowing to cast their vote in their state on May 25, 2024.

The official spokesperson informed that if any government officials/employees working in Punjab's government offices, boards/corporations and educational institutions, who are registered voters of Haryana, are eligible for special leave on May 25, 2024 (Saturday), upon presentation of their voter card. This leave will not be deducted from their leave balance.

He further apprised that, in accordance with Section 135B(1) of the Representation of People Act 1951, voters from Haryana employed in any industrial establishment, business, trade or other establishments in Punjab will also receive a paid holiday on May 25, 2024, to enable them to participate in the electoral process.

Additionally, a local holiday will be observed on May 25 in government offices/boards/corporations/educational institutions situated in the districts of Sri Muktsar Sahib, Bathinda, Mansa, Sangrur, Patiala, and Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar. This holiday will also be recognized under the Negotiable Instruments Act-1881. A notification to this effect has been issued by the Punjab government.
