Mayor assures Purvanchal Associations of Chhath Puja celebrations at 14 city locations, closer to their homes

Chandigarh, October 14:- The Mayor of Chandigarh, Sh. Saurabh Joshi, has assured representatives of Purvanchal associations of facilitating Chhath Puja celebrations at 14 locations across the city to enable devotees to observe the festival with faith and devotion closer to their homes.

MC Councillors Smt. Suman Sharma and Smt. Bimla Dubey, along with a delegation of Purvanchal associations led by Sh. Anil Dubey, met the Mayor and submitted proposals seeking necessary arrangements for organising Chhath Puja in their respective areas.

During the meeting, the delegation highlighted the difficulties faced by devotees, particularly women observing the rigorous Chhath fast, who have to travel long distances from various colonies, villages and EWS residential areas to New Lake, Sector 42, to perform religious rituals and offer prayers to the Sun God.

The delegation emphasised that facilitating celebrations at locations closer to residential areas would provide considerable relief to fasting women, elderly devotees and their families, enabling them to observe the festival comfortably and with dignity.

The proposed locations include Small Flats in EWS Colonies of Maloya and Dhanas, Kachchi Colony in Dhanas, EWS Colonies in Ram Darbar and Bapu Dham, Indira Colony and Shivalik Garden in Manimajra, Mauli Jagran, Vikas Nagar and Sunder Nagar, Mauli Village, Hallomajra, Daria, the area behind Ram Sharnam Mandir near PGI in Khuda Lahora, Khuda Alisher, Kaimbwala and Village Faidan.

The Mayor said that the proposed arrangements would also reduce the movement of large numbers of devotees towards a single location, thereby easing traffic congestion, preventing overcrowding at Sector 42 and minimising inconvenience to the general public.

The Mayor assured the delegation that the proposals would be taken up with the MC Commissioner for necessary arrangements at the identified locations well before the festival.

He said that the initiative aims to ensure that devotees can celebrate Chhath Puja in a peaceful and convenient environment, preserving the religious and cultural traditions of the Purvanchal community while promoting citizen-friendly arrangements across Chandigarh.
