Chandigarh, September 30, 2026: As part of the awareness initiatives, an awareness session on the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) was conducted at Bapudham Circle. Pregnant women were sensitised about the scheme, its benefits, eligibility criteria and the procedure for availing the benefits available under PMMVY.

Under the ECCE component of POSHAN Maah, learning activities were organised for children at Kaimbwala. Anganwadi Workers actively engaged the children through various games, rhymes and interactive learning activities. The children participated enthusiastically and enjoyed the activities. They were also sensitised about Hot Cooked Meal (HCM) and the nutritional value and benefits of consuming nutritious food through an interactive and child-friendly approach.

Similarly, activities for children in the 3–6 years age group were organised at the Anganwadi Building, Ramdarbar. The children participated in fun-filled activities such as crawling under a rope to collect blocks, walking while balancing a ball on a plate, and flipping and setting chairs upright, among other activities. To encourage the children, kits and lassi were distributed to all participants. These activities promoted physical coordination, cognitive development and social interaction while simultaneously creating awareness about the importance of nutritious food.

A number of other community-level health and nutrition activities were also undertaken during POSHAN Maah. These included antenatal check-ups, handwashing demonstrations, distribution of IFA tablets, lectures on diet during pregnancy and awareness sessions on the importance of immunisation.

As part of home-based outreach, Anganwadi Workers also conducted counselling and awareness activities for mothers and families. These included nutrition counselling, awareness regarding the importance of seasonal fruits and vegetables, sensitisation on immunisation, awareness about drug-related risks, and counselling on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding.

The activities focused on strengthening community participation and promoting healthy practices among pregnant women, lactating mothers, children and families. Through interactive learning, nutrition counselling and doorstep outreach, the initiatives aimed to reinforce the message that nutrition, health and early childhood development are a shared responsibility of families and the community.
