Chandigarh, September 13:-A heartfelt wish of 102 year-old Smt. Amravati Mahajan Ji turned into reality today as Chandigarh Mayor and Area Councillor Sh. Saurabh Joshi dedicated a revamped neighbourhood park in Sector-15/A to residents, while simultaneously launching a ₹1 crore development push comprising RCC road work at Nursing Quarters, Sector-15/B and reconstruction and beautification of 43 back-service lanes across Sector-15.

The most emotional moment came when the park was dedicated with the blessings of Mata Ji, who had earlier told Mayor Joshi that due to her advanced age she could no longer walk to the Floral Garden/Green Belt and had requested him to transform the dilapidated park in front of her house into a beautiful neighbourhood green space.

“Mata Ji’s wish was also the voice of many senior citizens of Sector-15. Today, seeing that wish become reality with her blessings is a moment of immense happiness and satisfaction for me,” said Mayor Joshi.

The park was upgraded in phases with proper lighting, tertiary treated water facilities, improved greenery and beautification, making it more accessible and comfortable for senior citizens, children and families.

Mata Ji’s sons, Sh. Varinder Mahajan Ji and Sh. Rajesh Mahajan Ji, were present on the occasion. Senior citizens and their families thanked Mayor Saurabh Joshi for responding to their long-pending demand and bringing a quality recreational space closer to their homes.

Under the development initiative, the 43 back-service lanes will be reconstructed and aesthetically improved, while the RCC road at Nursing Quarters will provide a stronger, safer and more durable surface for residents.

Mayor Joshi also acknowledged the support of the Area-Level Residents’ Monitoring Committee comprising Prof. Sunil Sharma, Sh. Raj Kumar Sahdev, Sh. Charanjeet Singh, Sh. Rajneesh Sharma, Sh. Ramesh Kumar Sood, Sh. Sanjeev Bansal, Sh. Prithvi Sharma, Sh. Jasjeet Singh Bhalla, Sh. Gurpreet Singh Mokha, Sh. Krishan and Er. S.K. Gupta for their active support and participation in strengthening quality, transparency and public involvement in development works.

“Development cannot stop at main roads. It must reach every park, every neighbourhood and every lane. Our focus is development that people can see, feel and experience at their doorstep,” Mayor Joshi said.

He directed Municipal Corporation officials to ensure quality construction, proper finishing and timely completion of all works.
