Chandigarh, 19 August: COMPASS (Club of MCM DAV Public Administration Students), Department of Public Administration at Mehr Chand Mahajan DA V College for Women organised an interactive session titled ‘Public Policy: From Ideas to Impact’.
Mr. Ritwik Mehta, Policy Strategist and Founder of Niti Tantra, the resource person, captivated the students’ attention as he took them down the journey of numbers and dynamics of factors that go into the making of any public policy. As nearly 150 students listened, Mr. Ritwik Mehta led an engaging session, providing valuable insights into contemporary policy issues, practical strategies for bridging the gap between theoretical classroom learning and real-world administrative application, and detailed nuances of calculations done to finalise any policy. Giving examples from his personal experiences of being a part of various policy formulations, he elaborated upon how the variable of individual voters and civil society as pressure groups contributes to policy dynamics. Mr Ritwik explained the use of technology in formulation of policies, especially in context of data analytics and social media. An important highlight of the session was a detailed overview of potential career options and growth pathways in the public policy sector. The interactive session concluded with a Q&A segment where students enthusiastically asked questions and received practical guidance from the speaker with questions ranging from policy regarding OTT platforms, factors affecting implementation of policies to pressures on policy strategists and how they handle them.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma emphasised the importance of holistic development and administrative learning. She highlighted the college’s commitment to providing students with practical exposure, encouraging them to engage actively in academic and co-curricular initiatives that foster leadership and civic awareness.
