From PGIMER to the Community: Prof. Babita Ghai Honoured by Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh for Exemplary Service in Chronic Pain Care
Prof. Babita Ghai, Professor and In-Charge, Pain Clinic, Department of Anaesthesia & Intensive Care, PGIMER, Chandigarh, has been conferred a Commendation Award by the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh for her exemplary contribution to chronic pain care and community service.
Prof. Ghai has been actively working to take specialised pain care beyond the hospital to underserved communities. During the past year, she has led many free community health and pain-relief camps in rural and semi-urban areas, providing consultation, screening, medicines and guidance to people living with chronic pain. The initiative goes beyond one-time camps, with her team subsequently conducting free yoga classes within the communities to promote long-term, self-managed care.
Her commitment to community health also extends to research. She has undertaken ICMR-funded community-based research examining the prevalence, impact and psychosocial consequences of chronic low back pain, helping highlight the need for a more holistic approach to chronic pain care.
The award recognises a journey that reflects the core ethos of PGIMER—bringing excellence in healthcare, research and education closer to the community and those most in need.

PGIMER Marks Tree Plantation Diwas on the Eve of 80th Independence Day; Sets Target to Plant 300 Saplings in 2026–27
On the eve of 80th Independence Day, the PGI celebrated the Tree Plantation Diwas by planting tree saplings in the PGI Campus. The Director, Dr. Vivek Lal after hoisting the flag at Kairon Block, kick started the campaign by planting sapling of Plumeria acutifolia(champa) in the lawn of Library of the PGI Institute.
Besides this, Worthy DDA Sh. Pankaj Rai, F.A Sh. Ravinder Singh, M.S. Prof. Ashok Kumar, Dr. Sanjay Jain, Dr. Sameer Aggarwal alongwith other faculty members and PGI staff planted the saplings with the help of Horticulture Wing of the Institute. PGI has set a target for the year 2026-27 to plant 300 saplings of trees, shrubs and climbers which will be helpful in beautifying & improving the aesthetics of the institute besides increasing the green cover of the Institute.
