Chandigarh, July 3:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is all set to organize a mega plantation drive under Van Mahotsav 2026 during next week at the Dadumajra Dumping Ground, where around 10 thousand saplings of different plants will be planted.

To review the preparations for the event, MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, along with Sh. Saurabh Kumar, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forest, Special Commissioner Sh. Pradeep Kumar, IAS, Sh. Anup Kumar, IFS, Joint Commissioner Sh. Balbir Raj Singh, Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora and other officers of the Municipal Corporation and Forest Department visited the site and took stock of the arrangements.

During the inspection, the officers reviewed the plantation area, availability of saplings, site preparation, irrigation arrangements, logistics and other necessary facilities required for the smooth conduct of the plantation drive.

The Commissioner directed the concerned officers to ensure that all arrangements are completed well in time and that proper coordination is maintained among all departments involved in the event. He emphasized that the plantation drive will play an important role in increasing green cover and further improving the environment at the Dadumajra site.

Officials also discussed the plantation plan, species selection and maintenance arrangements to ensure the healthy growth and survival of the saplings after plantation.

The MC Chandigarh and Forest Department are jointly making extensive preparations for the event and expect participation from government departments, educational institutions, resident welfare associations, environmental groups and members of the public.

The officers expressed confidence that the Van Mahotsav plantation drive will be a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability and making Chandigarh greener and cleaner.
