Chandigarh, May 16, 2026:The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, today felicitated 57 meritorious students of Government Schools who secured above 95 percent marks in the Class XII CBSE Examination during the “Meritorious Students Felicitation Ceremony” organised at Punjab Raj Bhavan/Lok Bhavan, Chandigarh.
Congratulating the students on their remarkable achievement, the Administrator said that their success reflects dedication, discipline and perseverance, coupled with the invaluable guidance of teachers and unwavering support of parents. He observed that the achievements of students from Government Schools have brought pride to Chandigarh and demonstrated the growing academic excellence within the public education system.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Kataria lauded the consistent improvement in the performance of Government Schools in Chandigarh. He informed that Government Schools recorded an overall pass percentage of 87.25 percent in the CBSE Class XII examinations this year, surpassing the national average of 85.2 percent by 2.05 percent. He further highlighted that while 57 students secured above 95 percent marks this year, the corresponding figure stood at 29 last year, indicating a significant upward trend in academic outcomes.
The Administrator further stated that 348 students secured 90 percent and above marks this year as compared to 225 students in the previous year. Appreciating the outstanding performance of girl students, he noted that girls achieved a pass percentage of 90.55 percent, exceeding the national average and reaffirming their consistent excellence in academics.
Shri Kataria specially appreciated the achievements of Anoop Saini of GMSSS-35, who secured 99.4 percent marks and Vanshika Jain of PM Shri GGMSSS-18, who scored 96 percent despite facing health challenges. Describing their accomplishments as inspirational, he said their determination, resilience and courage serve as a guiding example for other students.
In his address, the Administrator encouraged students to embrace innovation, emerging technologies and new-age learning opportunities. He urged them to explore fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, data science, green technology and entrepreneurship, while also upholding values of humility, integrity and social responsibility. Emphasising the role of youth in nation-building, he advised students to remain focused, stay away from drugs and negativity, and contribute positively towards society and the nation.
The Administrator further stated that the Chandigarh Administration is planning structured career counselling initiatives to help students identify career paths aligned with their aptitude, interests and aspirations. He also informed that efforts are being made to mobilise support from industrialists and other stakeholders to provide financial assistance and higher education opportunities to deserving and meritorious students.
The Administrator also congratulated the Education Department, Chandigarh Administration for successfully organising the programme and conveyed his best wishes to the students, parents and teachers for their continued success and contribution towards excellence in education.
Among those present on the occasion included Shri Vivek Pratap Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Punjab; Ms. Prerna Puri, Secretary Education, Chandigarh Administration; Shri Nitish Singla, Director School Education, Chandigarh Administration, along with other senior officers and officials of the Education Department.
