Chandigarh, May 9 — National Lok Adalat was organized on today under the dynamic leadership and guidance of Justice Deepak Sibal, Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HALSA). The Lok Adalat was successfully conducted across all 22 districts and 38 sub-divisions of Haryana, marking a significant step towards strengthening access to affordable and speedy justice.
A heartening settlement between senior citizen parents and their sons was achieved during the National Lok Adalat held at Panchkula Court. The senior citizens had filed a maintenance petition against their sons under Section 144 of the BNSS Act before the Principal Judge, Family Court.
During the amicable proceedings, both parties were encouraged to resolve the dispute through dialogue and mutual understanding. One son agreed to pay Rs.11,000 per month along with medical expenses, while the other agreed to pay Rs.9,000 per month to the parents from the date of filing of the petition. In view of the settlement reached in the Lok Adalat, the parents withdrew their petition.
The case emerged as a touching example of how National Lok Adalat not only resolves legal disputes amicably but also helps restore family harmony, dignity and emotional support for senior citizens.
In another significant development, the matter relating to the recent stand-off between the district judiciary and the local Bar Association at Faridabad was also taken up during the National Lok Adalat and resolved amicably through dialogue and reconciliation. The advocates expressed regret over the incident, and the Court withdrew its earlier observations recorded in a case, thereby restoring cordial relations and harmony between the Bench and the Bar.
Justice Deepak Sibal reviewed and monitored the functioning of the National Lok Adalat across the State and emphasized the need for a litigant-friendly, efficient and result-oriented approach by all Lok Adalat Benches to ensure maximum resolution of disputes through consensus and reconciliation. His Lordship reiterated that National Lok Adalat serves as an effective platform for inexpensive, expeditious and harmonious settlement of disputes while strengthening public confidence in the justice delivery system.
