*₹10.76 crore ‘protective shield’ to save Ambala Cantonment Industrial Area from floods; Energy Minister Anil Vij lays foundation stone of retaining wall*
*“The industrial area plays a significant role in the country’s progress; equipment manufactured here is supplied to defense, medical and various sectors” — Anil Vij*
*“Seven new sectors will be developed up to the ring road; an industrial sector will also be created behind the existing industrial area” — Anil Vij*
*“I do not make false claims like other leaders; I inform people after getting the work done” — Vij*
Chandigarh, April 9: Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister, Sh. Anil Vij said that the Ambala Cantonment Industrial Area plays a vital role in the country’s progress. Equipment related to science and other fields manufactured here is used in defense, engineering colleges, medical colleges, schools, the Air Force, and other sectors. From this perspective, the industrial area contributes significantly to national development.
Sh. Vij was addressing a large gathering today after laying the foundation stone of an RCC retaining wall (boundary wall) in the Ambala Cantonment Industrial Area, to be constructed at a cost of ₹10.76 crore.
Congratulating the people of the industrial area on the construction of the boundary wall project, Sh. Vij said that the Ambala Cantonment Industrial Area was established around 1970, and his friend Netrapal had set up the first industry there. Since then, the area has repeatedly suffered flooding during rains, causing losses, but no concrete work was ever done. Now, responding to the demands of industrialists, a concrete boundary wall costing ₹10.76 crore is being constructed. It will be 8 feet high and extend 14 feet below ground level to withstand water pressure and prevent collapse. He emphasized that it is essential to protect industries during the rainy season. The Ambala Cantonment industrial sector is important because it supplies instruments to defense, aeronautics, engineering, medical colleges, and other key institutions. If industries halt, development also stops.
Sh. Vij added that along with constructing the wall, the bed of the Tangri river is also being deepened in phases from village Ramgarh Majra to village Durana. He said that some people are creating obstacles in this work, even though the land belongs to the Municipal Council, which has already granted NOC for excavation. He explained that the Tangri is a seasonal river, and excessive rainfall used to flood the cantonment area. However, preventive measures have been taken by constructing an 8-kilometer-long embankment with a paved road on the other side of the river, from Ramgarh Majra to the Ambala–Saharanpur railway line, which has helped protect the city. Last year, despite record water levels in the Tangri river, not a single drop entered the city due to this embankment. Now, similar protection is being developed on the industrial area side to secure both banks of the river.
He also directed the contractor handling the wall construction to ensure that the work is completed before the onset of the rainy season.
*“Seven new sectors will be developed up to the ring road; an industrial sector will also be created behind the existing industrial area” — Vij*
The Energy Minister further said that development works are being carried out daily in Ambala Cantonment. These include the four-laning of the Ambala–Saha road, construction of a ring road around the cantonment, a homeopathic medical college, the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), and numerous other projects. He said that seven new sectors are being developed within the ring road, while an industrial sector will be established up to village Raula behind the existing industrial area, along with a transport sector in Ghasitpur and other development initiatives to make Ambala Cantonment more modern and well-developed.
*“I do not make false claims like other leaders; I inform people after getting the work done” — Anil Vij*
Sh. Vij said that unlike other leaders, he does not make false promises but informs people only after completing work. The development work carried out in Ambala Cantonment itself reflects this progress. He also announced that an Auto Training School/Vehicle Testing Centre will be set up in Shahpur at a cost of ₹11 crore, for which land has been selected and administrative approval has been granted.
*“NCDC being established in Naggul; testing and research on various diseases will be carried out here” — Anil Vij*
Sh. Vij added that around 140 types of tests are currently conducted at the Ambala Cantonment Civil Hospital. To further enhance these facilities and enable rare cancer-related tests, new laboratory testing capabilities will be introduced with an investment of ₹2.5 crore. He said that the Ambala Cantonment Civil Hospital is one of the best in North India, equipped with modern facilities. An NCDC laboratory is also being set up in village Naggul, where testing and research on various serious diseases will be conducted. He further informed that a homeopathic college is also being established in the area, and before its completion, OPD services are already running successfully at the hospital in Rampur, benefiting hundreds of patients daily.
On this occasion, several dignitaries and representatives from the industrial sector, Laghu Udyog Bharti, BJP, Municipal Council, and HSIIDC, along with other prominent citizens, were present.
