CHANDIGARH, 19.2.26-In a significant step toward strengthening digital literacy and cyber-safety awareness among youth, Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College successfully hosted an interactive cyber-safety workshop conducted by the India Today Group, including its flagship news channel Aaj Tak, under the nationwide initiative Project SHIELD.
Project SHIELD is designed to equip students and citizens with the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize, avoid and report online scams and cyber threats. Through interactive sessions, real-world examples and practical demonstrations, the initiative aims to empower young digital users with critical cyber security awareness in an era where digital interactions form an integral part of daily life.
The workshop at Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College featured expert facilitators Mr. Pathikrit Sanyal and Mr. Avi Kumar from the India Today Group Fact Check team. Kamaljit Sandhu, Bureau Chief, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal, shared her experiences with the audience detailing instances of cyber scams.
They engaged students in hands-on activities focused on identifying common online scams, understanding scammer tactics and adopting best practices for secure digital behaviour. Topics covered included digital arrest, social media privacy, the importance of strong passwords, safe online communication and how to report cybercrime incidents through official channels.
Students actively participated in quizzes, scenario-based discussions and interactive demonstrations, which helped reinforce key learnings about cyber hygiene and digital vigilance. The workshop not only provided informational insights but also encouraged critical thinking and peer learning, enabling participants to become informed and responsible digital citizens.
Dr. Ajay Sharma, Principal of the college, stated, “The event reflects the college’s commitment to supporting digital safety and awareness through educational outreach, by engaging directly with communities and fostering a culture of cyber resilience among the next generation.”
