Chandigarh, 7 January 2026:The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, today addressed selected youth representatives from Punjab and U.T. Chandigarh at Punjab Lok Bhawan, ahead of their participation in the 29th National Youth Festival (NYF) 2026, scheduled to be held from 9 to 12 January 2026 in New Delhi.
Special Chief Secretary, Sports and Youth Services, Punjab, Shri Sarvjit Singh; Chief Secretary, Chandigarh, Shri H. Rajesh Prasad; Principal Secretary to Governor, Punjab, Shri V.P. Singh; Home Secretary, Chandigarh, Mandeep Singh Brar; Sports Secretary, Chandigarh, Ms. Prerna Puri; and Director Sports, Chandigarh, Shri Sorabh Kumar Arora were present on the occasion.
Congratulating the participants, the Governor said their selection was a proud moment for Punjab and Chandigarh and reflected their talent and leadership. He reminded students that they would represent their State and Union Territory on a national platform and that their conduct and performance would showcase the potential and values of their regions.
He highlighted that the National Youth Festival, organised every year since 1995 on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda ji, brings together the youth of the country and provides a platform for cultural expression, ideas and leadership, while emphasizing that true education builds character and a spirit of service.
Referring to the theme “Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue”, the Governor said it aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, where today’s youth will play a key role in shaping a developed India. He noted that 139 participants, including 85 from Punjab and 54 from Chandigarh, will take part in the Viksit Bharat Challenge Track and Cultural Events.
The Governor said the energy and dedication of youth have always driven nation-building, drawing inspiration from the sacrifices of the Chhote Sahibzade and Shaheed Bhagat Singh. He stated that India’s growing global stature, strengthened infrastructure, progress under Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India, and improved governance are a result of collective efforts in which youth act as key catalysts.
He encouraged participants to experience India’s unity in diversity during the National Youth festival and appreciated the role of coaches and mentors in grooming these young talents. He congratulated the youth for being selected from among over 50 lakh entries and wished them success at NYF 2026.
The event commenced with the National Anthem and concluded with the National Anthem.
