Ludhiana 24 December 2025-Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized a two-week Dairy Farming Training Programme, which received an overwhelming response with 41 participants, including 40 men and1 women across Punjab.
Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Vice Chancellor, appreciated the Department of Veterinary Extension Education for successfully organizing a well-structured and outcome-driven training programme. Dr. Gill emphasized that dairy farming, being a vital component of Punjab’s agrarian economy, possesses immense potential for self-employment, entrepreneurship and sustainable income generation, especially for rural youth and women.
Dr. R.S. Grewal, Director of Extension Education said that dairying not only contributes significantly to household nutritional security but also plays a crucial role in generating employment and promoting rural economic development. He further highlighted that value addition through diversified milk and dairy products can substantially enhance farm profitability and create new avenues for income generation.
Course Director Dr. Jaswinder Singh, outlined the programme’s comprehensive and practice-oriented curriculum, which effectively blended theoretical learning with hands-on training. The programme covered critical aspects such as scientific housing systems, balanced ration formulation, mastitis prevention and control, vaccination schedules, clean milk production, reproductive health management, biosecurity measures and marketing strategies for milk and value-added dairy products.
A special session on financial assistance schemes and institutional credit facilities for livestock enterprises was conducted by Shri Gurnam Singh from Bank of Baroda.Dr. Priya Bahri, Dairy Development Inspector, Dairy Development Department, Punjab, delivered an informative lecture highlighting departmental initiatives and ongoing schemes aimed at supporting dairy farmers.
The valedictory session was addressed by Dr. R.K. Sharma, Director, Regional Research and Training Centre, Talwara. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Ravdeep Singh and Dr. Parteek Singh Dhaliwal, with student coordinator Dr. Simranpal Singh Sekhon.
