Chandigarh, December 8:- In a decisive move to reinforce the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh’s zero-tolerance policy towards open waste burning, a challan of Rs. 6,701 has been issued against an outsourced sanitation worker deployed in Sector 44.
The worker, Sh. Ravinder Kumar, employed through Lions Services, was found burning waste in an open area—an act strictly prohibited under the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Rules.
This marks the first incident in which Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, has directed stringent action against a sanitation worker engaged through an outsourced agency. The Commissioner emphasized that open burning of waste is a serious environmental violation, contributing to air pollution and posing health risks to residents.
Acting promptly on MCC’s directive, Lions Services has placed the concerned worker under immediate suspension from duty. The Municipal Corporation reiterated that such violations will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and strict penal action will continue to be taken against anyone found burning waste—whether a citizen, employee, or agency worker.
He appealed to all residents, sanitation staff, and outsourced agencies to adhere strictly to the MSW Rules and support the city’s efforts in maintaining a clean, sustainable, and pollution-free environment.
The Corporation reaffirmed that nobody will be spared for engaging in activities like open waste burning, and consistent monitoring will be carried out across all sectors.
