Ludhiana, November 30 November 2025-Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, came alive with colours, creativity and cultural pride as students participated enthusiastically in traditional competitions including beautiful turban tying, mehndi applying, lambi gutt and Kavishri singing. The event formed an important part of the ongoing youth festival aimed at promoting Punjabi heritage and legacy among the young generation.

Dr JPS Gill, Vice-Chancellor expressed pride in the students’ enthusiasm, saying, “These competitions beautifully reflect the cultural richness of Punjab. Our youth festival is not just an event but a celebration of our traditions, creativity and collective identity. I am delighted to see students embracing Punjabi heritage with such passion and skill.”

The turban tying competition drew special attention as participants showcased skill, precision and elegance while creating various traditional styles. The mehndi applying event added charm to the day, with intricate designs reflecting exceptional artistry and patience. The lambi gutt competition—symbolic of traditional Punjabi grooming—highlighted the cultural identity and aesthetics appreciated in rural Punjab.

Adding a soulful touch, students performed Kavishri, the powerful and expressive poetic singing form of Punjab. Their energetic recitations and rhythmic delivery captivated the audience, celebrating the rich oral traditions of the region.

Dr. RS Aulakh, Director Students’ Welfare said, “Activities like turban tying, mehndi applying, lambi gutt and Kavishri connect the young generation to their cultural roots. Such events encourage confidence, artistic expression and teamwork among students.”

Dr. SPS Ghuman, Organising Secretary added, “The overwhelming response from students shows how deeply they value cultural traditions. Our team worked hard to ensure smooth organisation, and the participants truly made the event memorable."
