CHANDIGARH, 16.11.25-The Environment Society of India achieved another milestone today as more than 900 participants enthusiastically joined the Golden Jubilee Celebration Walkathon at Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh.
The theme of the walkathon was “RRRRR – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover, and Restore”, encouraging citizens to adopt environmentally responsible habits. Participants raised spirited slogans such as “Clean Environment, Green Environment”, “Say No to Plastic”, and “RRRRR—Our Responsibility!”, creating a lively and inspiring atmosphere around the lake Also present were Shri Sanjeev Rana, Secretary, Chandigarh BJP, Mr. Nemi Chand, Liaison Officer NSS Chandigarh, officials of CISF, Mrs. Mohinder Kaur, Nominated Councillor, MC Chandigarh, Dr. Dhirender Chauhan, Scientist/representatives from the Punjab State Council for Science & Technology, officers from Chandigarh Administration, and volunteers from the “I Hate Polythene” Team, Panchkula.
School and college students, NSS volunteers, yoga groups, and members of the general public took part with great enthusiasm.
The Society extended gratitude to its dedicated volunteers—Ms. Rakhi Agarwal, Ms. Ritu Khosla, Ms. Preetie Kapani, Joint Secretary, Dr. Rabinder Nath, Treasurer, Mr. Prminder Kapani, Shri Deepak Sharma, Mr. Rakesh Sharma, Ms. Chandni Sharma, Sh. Ashok Bansal, Dr. Basundhara, Ms. Aarti—along with teams from GMSSS Sector 15, GMHS Sector 23 Yoga Centre, NSS Wing, CISF, and other supporting groups.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. N. K. Jhingan, Secretary, Environment Society of India, emphasized the importance of the RRRRR concept, stating:
“Our environment is our shared responsibility. Through RRRRR—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover, and Restore—we can collectively build a cleaner, greener, and healthier future. Today’s walkathon reflects the strong spirit of community action for environmental protection.”
