Chief Secretary urges stricter measures to combat illegal liquor smuggling ahead of lok sabha elections 2024

Chandigarh, ( DIPR HARYANA DIPR HARYANA<hrpressnotehindi2022@gmail.com>) April 27- Haryana Chief Secretary, Sh. T.V.S.N. Prasad has urged for more stringent measures to combat illegal liquor smuggling during the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha general elections. He emphasised the critical role of intensified intelligence gathering at the local level by Police Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners (DCs), Superintendents of Police (SPs), and officers from the Excise Department.

This proactive approach aims to bolster legal actions against individuals engaged in such illicit activities.

He said this while presiding over the meeting to review preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Gurugram today. Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, and Commissioners of police officers from Gurugram, Panchkula, Sonipat, and Jhajjar, along with representatives from the Police and Excise and Taxation departments, attended the meeting. Some officers participated via video conference as well.

Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Sh. Anurag Agarwal, and ADGP, CID Sh. Alok Mittal, Principal Secretary, Excise Department, Sh. Devinder Kalyan also attended the meeting through video conference.

During the meeting, Sh. Prasad enquired about the status of illegal liquor seized district-wise. He directed senior officers to establish coordination with neighbouring states to trace the origin of seized liquor. Additionally, he emphasised the need for heightened vigilance, especially in districts bordering Delhi and other states.

Referring to data, Sh. Prasad highlighted the seizure of 2,78,819 litres of illicit liquor worth Rs 9 crore within Haryana thus far. He concluded by stressing the necessity of maintaining the effectiveness of these strict measures until the upcoming assembly election. He emphasised that the strict measures taken now will remain effective until the upcoming assembly elections.

The Chief Secretary directed all officers to expand their networks and take decisive action against those involved in such illicit activities. He emphasised the importance of strengthening intelligence networks and investigating past cases, relying on the inputs provided by the CID. Additionally, he commended the suggestion made by Gurugram Divisional Commissioner, Sh. R.C Bidhan to increase surprise inspections on alternative routes rather than main thoroughfares. During the meeting, Gurugram, DC, Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav briefed the Chief Secretary on the district's progress, highlighting the establishment of 47 checkpoints in Gurugram and the seizure of 14.8 thousand litres of illicit liquor thus far.

Chief Secretary commends the activities done under the SVEEP programme in Gurugram

Chandigarh, April 27– Haryana Chief Secretary, Sh. T.V.S.N. Prasad, inaugurated the Voter Park established in collaboration with CSR Trust in the Vikas Sadan Complex of Gurugram. Under this park, activities related to voting and Lok Sabha elections were showcased. The Chief Secretary praised the initiatives undertaken and mentioned that similar activities will be organized in other districts of the state.

On this occasion, the Chief Secretary along with Gurugram Division Commissioner, Sh. R.C. Bidhan, DC, Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav and ADC, Sh. Hitesh Kumar Meena were also present.

The Chief Secretary was briefed about the first EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) and VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) machines installed at the booths in the Voter Park. He cast a vote using the ballot unit and also obtained a slip from the VVPAT machine. Detailed information about the democratic system of the country and the Gurugram Lok Sabha constituency was displayed in the Voter Park. It was mentioned that the first elections were held between October 1951 and February 1952, with Sukumar Sen as the Chief Election Commissioner, and the voter turnout was 45.7%. The history of the EVM machine was also explained, stating that it was first used in the Kerala elections in 1982 and later used nationwide for elections in 2004. Visual content regarding the sveep activities conducted in the district was also displayed in the park.

The Chief Secretary, in support of the sveep campaign, released balloons into the air, urging all citizens to vote. He also boosted the morale of the district administration by painting "Sveep Well Done" on the wall. Brand ambassadors appointed for the Gurugram Lok Sabha elections, including the famous singer MD Desi and Naveen Punia, presented a spirited voting anthem, 'Vote Karo-Vote Karo' composed for Gurugram. Chief Secretary honored two other brand ambassadors, young chess player Tanishka Kotiya and senior citizen Subhash Bishoi, with Sveep caps. He urged the citizens and players present to pledge for maximum voter turnout on May 25.

The efforts of the district administration will increase voter turnout this time

Chief Secretary, Sh. T.V.S.N. Prasad stated that voting is the most crucial responsibility of every citizen in a democratic system. He was addressing local media personnel after inaugurating the Voter Park. He mentioned that the Gurugram district administration is conducting commendable activities under the Sveep campaign, and he is confident that voter turnout will be even higher this time. He directed the district administrative officers to ensure all facilities for elderly and differently-abled voters, and to boost the enthusiasm of young first-time voters. Additional CEO of CSR Trust, Gaurav Singh, District Sports Officer Ramnivas, and other officers were also present at the occasion.

‘Voter-in-Queue’ app to provide information on queues at polling centers -District Election Officer

No longer need to wait long to cast a vote

With the app's information, voters can vote according to their convenience. This app will also help to increase voter turnout.

Karnal, Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer, Sh. Uttam Singh stated that the Election Commission is taking significant steps to increase voter turnout during the Lok Sabha elections. For the upcoming Lok Sabha 2024 general elections scheduled for May 25, the ‘Voter-in-Queue’ app has been launched by the commission to make vital decisions. Through this, voters can see the live crowd at the polling centers on the day of the election, allowing them to go to the centre to vote according to their convenience. Many times, voters leave without casting their votes after seeing the crowd. But now, through this app, information about the polling centers will be available. He informed that the Election Commission of India has also approved the use of the ‘Voter-In-Queue’ mobile app.

Sh. Singh stated that on the mobile app, voters will feed information such as the name of their area, the name of the polling booth, the voter's name, etc., and they will receive an OTP. Through this OTP, they can connect directly with the BLO at the booth. The BLO will update the app about the number of people standing in the queue every hour or half an hour. The app's primary advantage is that it will save voters time by eliminating the need to wait in long queues, he added.

The ‘Voter-in-Queue’ app has been launched in various constituencies including Karnal for the first time

The District Election Officer, Sh. Uttam Singh stated that the ‘Voter-in-Queue’ mobile app is being used for the first time in elections. If this experiment is successful, it can be implemented in all assembly constituencies in the future. As an initial trial, the ‘Voter-in-Queue’ app has been started in constituencies including Gurugram, Rohtak, Bahadurgarh, Kaithal, Jhajjar, Rewari, Narnaul, Nuh, Palwal, Faridabad, Badkhal, Panchkula, Ambala Cantonment, Ambala City, Yamunanagar, Thanesar, Panipat, and Sonipat.

The last date for application to the Integrated Teacher Education Program is April 30

Chandigarh, April 27- Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa, Education Department has initiated the Integrated Teacher Education Program for the academic year 2023-24, aimed at fulfilling the dream of becoming a teacher for 12th-pass students. This program is as per the National Education Policy 2020 and is accredited by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).

Chairperson, Education Department, Prof. Ranjit Kaur, stated that the main objective of this program is to provide the nation with good teachers. The minimum eligibility for admission to this program is 12th grade. The entrance examination for admission to the program will be conducted at the national level by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Students can apply for the entrance exam themselves by visiting www.nta.ac.in and https://ncet.samarth.ac.in/. The last date for application is April 30, 2024.Students who are still awaiting their 12th-grade results are also eligible to apply.

In the entrance exam, students can choose three subjects studied in the 12th grade, two language-related subjects, one general knowledge subject, and one teaching skill (competency). This entrance exam will be computer-based and will consist of multiple-choice questions. The above-mentioned website has complete information about the entrance exam and curriculum.

The Chairperson further stated that it is necessary to participate in the national entrance exam conducted by the NTA for admission to the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Program at Chaudhary Devi Lal University. Admission to the university will be determined by the marks obtained in the entrance examination. Students will be able to enroll in the university's Education Department for B.A. B.Ed and B.Sc B.Ed programs, each with 50 seats. In this curriculum, students can select subjects according to their level and will have the opportunity to choose their favorite subjects. Additionally, arrangements have been made for practical subjects in the lab.
