CHANDIGARH, 12.04.24-Colonel Gursewak Singh ( Veteran), Residents Welfare Association, MHC Chandigarh has written a letter to Smt. Anindita Mitra, CEO, Smart City Pvt Ltd. highlighting the issues related to water supply under its 24x7 water supply scheme.

Colonel Gursewak Singh wrote that the residents were greatly relieved to hear about 24x7 water supply project which was planned for Manimajra Sector-13 Chandigarh about 3 years back. The main reason for happiness was that they have been suffering from supply of dirty water due old rusty pipes. Now that new pipes have been laid the following problems are experienced by residents:

1. The overhead water tanks do not get completely filled up due to low pressure of supply.

2. Frequent leakage of water from plastic pipe joints and ferrules.

Possible cause of problems:

1. Ferrules get frequently clogged with dirt/ kachhra due to its very small diameter.

2. Low pressure water is attributed to a narrow 3 inch diameter pipe supplying water to 24 houses.

3. The plastic pipes and ferrules are unable to withstand the water pressure due to its low quality and thus may not last long .

Users Suggestions:

1. A better quality of ferrule and water pipes be used so as to avoid problems in future.

2. A bigger diameter of supply pipe line at the meter end would help get better supply.

3. Finally, a small talk by an expert on above mentioned issues would help remove apprehensions in the mind of residents.
