Chandigarh, 27 August: NSS Units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women participated in the nationwide celebrations of National Sports Day under the Khelo India Samvaad (Khel Ki Baat PM ke Saath) programme, organised under the aegis of Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. This year’s celebrations were held under the core theme “Youth Participation, Sports Development, and Nation Building” with the aim of bringing the nation’s youth, sporting icons and future leaders together on a common national platform.

The programme commenced with a felicitation ceremony honouring college alumni Mehak Singh and Angel Yadav for their outstanding achievements in Judo. Mehak Singh brought laurels to the nation by securing a Bronze Medal at the Taipei Asia Open 2025, demonstrating exceptional dedication, perseverance and sporting excellence. Angel Yadav was felicitated for securing Third Position in the Individual event at the Asian Junior Championships 2026, marking another significant achievement on the international sporting stage. Their coach, Mr. Vivek Thakur, was also felicitated in recognition of his invaluable guidance, mentorship and contribution towards nurturing and developing their sporting talent. The felicitation ceremony was followed by an online session with the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India as part of the Bharat Youth Connect initiative. The session provided students with an opportunity to participate in a larger national dialogue on the importance of sports, youth empowerment and strengthening India’s sporting ecosystem. This was followed by an engaging Yuva Samvad, during which students actively shared their ideas and perspectives on the development of new sports complexes and sporting infrastructure. The discussion encouraged young participants to think constructively about creating accessible, inclusive and well-equipped sporting facilities capable of identifying and nurturing emerging talent while promoting fitness and a healthy lifestyle among the youth. The programme concluded with the participants taking the Nasha Mukt Bharat pledge, reaffirming their commitment to building a healthy, responsible and substance-free society.

Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma lauded the efforts of the NSS Units and appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the students in the nationwide initiative. She commended their commitment to promoting sports, youth participation and social responsibility, and congratulated the felicitated alumni and their coach on their remarkable contribution to the field of Judo.
