Chandigarh, August 3:The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, along with his wife Smt. Anita Kataria, today released The Pride of Peacock: Glory of India, a coffee-table pictorial publication compiled by Punjab State Information Commissioner Shri Harpreet Sandhu, at Punjab Lok Bhavan. Based on the theme "Saavan: Symphony of the Monsoons," the publication promotes environmental awareness, biodiversity conservation and appreciation of India's natural heritage.

Governor described the publication as a unique blend of art, nature and conservation. He said it is an inspiring tribute to India's national bird that encourages people, especially the younger generation, to protect wildlife and the environment.

Quoting Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji's baani, "Pavan Guru Pani Pita Mata Dharat Mahat," the Governor emphasized the need to respect and protect nature. He said the peacock holds a special place in India's cultural and spiritual heritage through its association with Lord Kartikeya, Goddess Saraswati and Lord Krishna's peacock feather. He urged citizens to conserve biodiversity by protecting forests, wetlands and natural habitats and adopting sustainable lifestyles.

The programme began with the rendition of Shabads from Gurbani. The publication showcases the beauty of the peacock through photographs and artwork, while a documentary on the peacock, compiled with the support of the Department of Tourism and the Department of Cultural Affairs, Chandigarh Administration, was also screened.

Also present on the occasion were Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor of Punjab, Shri Vivek Pratap Singh; Secretary, Tourism-cum-Culture, Chandigarh Administration, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah; and Director, Cultural Affairs, Shri Naveen and other prominent personalities from Punjab and Chandigarh.
